WTF??

I kind of thought that excess was taken when something was done to the car!

Is that normal??

Yes...your excess (assuming it is classed as your "fault") is for every claim

VampiresWalkin · 31/01/2009 12:19

Ffs - have googled, so i can claim back from the other party. but that still leaves me with not enough to live on this month

I am sure they took off our excess before producing a cheque when one of our cars was written off.

VampiresWalkin · 31/01/2009 12:20

I can't do this any more. DH is worried sick about money. I'm terrified he is going to do something bloody stupid he is that low.

Me shrieking about losing an extra £150 is enough to tip him over the edge

Why can't they make these things clear?

I'm sure it is clear to anyone else, but to me, they tell me they are giving me £x for my car, I stupidly assumed that the £x would be what the cheque was written for. Not once in my 10,000 phone calls have they said they will give us £x minus the £150.

I think they assume that you have read the terms and conditions.

Can any of your family help out in the meantime?

VampiresWalkin · 31/01/2009 12:28

i'm toof 8cking stupid to have taken in everything when high on codeine after the crash, and before the crash I just didn't think.

I am sorry you are feeling so crap.

What about food etc that you already have in? Can you just do a few top ups and save some money that way?

VampiresWalkin · 31/01/2009 12:33

We've used absolutely everything up just getting by iver the last couple of weeks. I think when I can sit and think rationally I will be able to make it all work, the shock of it has just hit me hard, plus knowing I have completely wrecked DH

OP posts:
Lulumama · 31/01/2009 12:34

you;ve not wrecked DH!

i did not know you had had a crash, that is awful, were you hurt?

i know with some policies, you can pay lower premiums if you have a higher excess, so it is a bit of a gamble that you don;t need to claim.

the small print is a PITA, but they do presume you agree to the T&Cs when you sign up

bummer though

littleducks · 01/02/2009 10:02

when we claimed, they said car was worth £x, we said no it was worth more (never accept first offer) after some to-ing and fro-ing we settled onn £y and the sent us a cheque for £y-excess

sorry its been tough for you, how are you injured? will be slated for this but are you going to claim for injuries, lost earnings atc?

Flamesparrow · 01/02/2009 11:46

It does make sense when I can think through it all logically. So much of this is just hitting me sideways and where I am so wound up by it all it is seeming 100x worse with each knock iyswim.

I have whiplash - am getting physio for it. Yes, littleducks, I am claiming. It felt very wrong to start with, but it really has impacted on our whole life this last 3 weeks. Neither insurer asked if we planned to claim, they just organised solicitors (which shocked me!). I am mainly just thankful that it was one of those freak car journeys where Flameboy actually kept his arms in his car seat.
