We have ours with the post office.

Try looking at money saving expert or which for which is best.

Watch out. If you take out insurance when there is a sniff of redundancy they may not pay out. Speak to an IFA.

I think most have a qualifying period during which you won't get a payout if he's made redundant (maybe the first 6 months), plus if there has been any infomration which makes him think he might be redundant they often don't pay out at all. Sorry to be negative, but make very sure you'll actually be covered before you waste money on the premiums.

I took out a policy last year with Pinnacle Insurance (affiliated to BNP Paribas), they were the most competitive with the level of income protection I was looking for. However MuminScotland is correct, whilst shopping around, they all had a qualifying period of 6 months and their terms and conditions state that any prior knowledge of "possible" redunancy and they would not pay out.

Has anyone done this? The way things are going you never know what will happen day-to-day.

please note income protection does not cover redundancy. the type of insurance you need is ASU accident sickness unemployment or possibley PPI payment protection insurance (covering loans eg mortgages) which usually covers redundancy (check small print). but if he works for rbs your premium will either be ridiculously high or you will not be able to claim for a certain amount of time (6 months or so), or they wont insure you.

We took some out(called Lifestyle Protection Policy- covers accident, sickness and unemployment)with the Post Office. Covers up to 60% income and has only 60 day qualifying period, most are 120 days.
As others have said, does not cover you if unemployment occurs within qualification period or notification of employment was given to you within the qualification period. Or if at the start date you knew you were going to be made unemployed or you had reason to believe it was likely to happen. Not sure how they would prove that?
