If i have to move out of my home suddenly, is there a scheme/charity or similar that could help with a deposit?

I work full time and do not earn a low wage. I don't have enough in accessible savings to use and am unlikely to get a loan or credit card due to financial association with partner. I know i can dissasociate but i won't have time if i have to go very quickly.

Any advice will be very welcome. Many thanks.

Have you tried Shelter?

AnarchyAunt · 12/01/2009 21:14

Depends where you live IME. Some but not all local councils run a deposit guarantee scheme - best asking them. And Shelter are excellent.

Mmm, didn't think of Shelter. Will give that a go. Many thanks.

Our local council does do a deposit guarantee scheme but you can only access it if you are in receipt of benefits. I'm not.

I think most schemes to help with things like deposits will be means tested tbh.

Shelter can only do face-to-face advice if you take proof of benefits (so they told me a month ago).

But they will be able to give a lot of help over the phone - far more than I expected them to when I had to call.

It's a bugger really. I'm not destitute as i have a very well paid job but i haven't got a deposit and rent in advance but am also likely to be forced to move very soon.
I'll ring shelter though and see what they say.

Thanks for your help.

Our local YMCA and Council have a scheme to guarantee deposits but it is done on a circumsatcne and means test basis. You may simply have to access your savings (assuming there is simply a financial penalty to do so not that it is phsycilaly impossible). If you move can you not reuse whatever deposit you already have held there.
