Anyone had a problem with CRB check because all documents are in their maiden name?

Have volunteered to help out at dss' school but the CRB people will not accept my passport or driving licence because they are in my maiden name. All my bank and credit card statements are in my maiden name as well, not sure what to do.

hmm, is there not any other form of ID you can use? maybe you can update your passport?? it may not take long. do you need it urgently?

CaptainUnderpants · 07/01/2009 19:16

But surely you can produce your marriage certificate as a docunemt which will show your maiden and marriage name. You have to list previous names any way on the CRB and if the person who verifies them at the school sees your marraige certificate and birth certificate I dont see what the problem can be.

Lots of pople have passport still in maiden name and aslong as travel tickets are purchased in that name there is nothng wrong in having a passport in maiden name.

Is it the CRB pople saying it is a problem or the school ?

SugaryTits · 07/01/2009 19:18

When I had my CRB it said all supporting documents must be in the name you are applying under. Can you not apply for CRB using your maiden name?

RumMum · 07/01/2009 19:19

it doesn't have to be your passport or driving licence.. a birth certificate, mariage certificate, and any utility bill with your name on will do...

slalomsuki · 07/01/2009 19:19

Mine are all in my maiden name so I just got the CRB check done in that name. The school and my employer accepted that.

madlentileater · 07/01/2009 19:20

Not that, but had a big problem because although I am married, I have not changed my name and use 'Ms' as formal title. They really are dense these people. But was easy to sort out once I found who i had to speak to- which was someone at county office, rather than the local organisation who dealt with the checks IFYSWIM

cktwo · 07/01/2009 19:20

I use both of my names and OFSTED told me to apply for the CRB under my maiden otherwise it would cause problems. All my documents are unchanged and I only really use my marries name when its for things to do with the children (eg schools otherwise it's too confusing for the admin).

Can't you apply again using your maiden name? If all your dicuments are under that name then you are technically still using that name.

ahfeckit · 07/01/2009 19:21

i would probably go with what others are suggesting here, by just applying for the job in maiden name rather than faffing around trying to sort it out with your new name, means it will stop any delay if you are in a rush to work.

slalomsuki · 07/01/2009 19:22

I use Ms too and didn't have a problem

CaptainUnderpants · 07/01/2009 19:23

Agree use your maiden name .

saadia · 07/01/2009 19:25

Thank you everyone. I don't need it urgently, should probably update passport and driving licence (dh is enjoying telling me I should have had everything changed when we got married). I did give my marriage certificate as well as passport, driving licence and building society letter. All bank/credit card statements are also in maiden name. Utility bills are all in dh's name. I could probably come up with a TV liecnce but that won't be enough. Birth certificate is not from UK.

I will speak to the Head tomorrow to explain. It's only for helping out one afternoon a week so not a problem as such at the moment, but I am hoping to go into teaching so will need it probably within the year.

sorry, x-posted, will suggest applying in maiden name to Head then, thank you.

As far as I understand you have no legal requirement to change your name. I'm CRB checked and have never changed my name, even after 20 years of marriage, though I am called Mrs dh's name by some people. It wasn't a problem - I just told sec I'd never changed my name.

anyoneoutthere · 07/01/2009 22:13

Yes - i have always produced a marriage certificate together with my CRB in my maiden name and noone has had a problem. Done it for the last 10 years
