Hi, My sister is just about to move into a council house after staying with me, brilliant news for her but she needs now to furnish it etc, she has been told she may be eligable for one of these grants but was given no details, so can anyone tell me what they are exactly please, ie who is eligable how much she would be granted roughly, is it a case of they purchase items for her or she sends in receipts?.
Sorry for the ramble but I have not got a clue about them and neither has she.

Salvation Army is a fab idea.

Do you know where the salvation army is round here, you know my sense of direction is still rather hit or miss.

Mmmmm......It's near the DRI, if you are in the city centre, facing the clock outside woolworths, head DRI. The road splits, take the right side and it's up there (if you know where I mean). www.salvationarmyderby.org.uk

Thank you and for once I do know where you mean!!

community care grant.......apply when you have new address...list absolutely everything you need, down to t towels and teaspoons!! then i've found through my own experienc, and friends, that you usually get given about half of what you ask for.

it goes in your bank account as cash. no receipts needed. you don't repay it,its a one off for those who have been homeless.

I had one when I moved into a council flat with DD. I went through the Argos catalogue to find the cheapest price for everything I needed. Don't forget curtains and bedding! I asked for about £1000 worth of things and got £700 which incidentally was what it cost to carpet the place. (Thanks Mum)

An advisor helped me fill in the form and I remember she said it was important to stress that the money for the home was to provide security after an unsettled past.

Oh reading about the investigation and your sis having to have a fresh start it sounds like she should mention this.

Thanks to everybody for replying, she now has a better idea of what it is, and with luck they will help her with some of the costs, most important is that she and my niece will have their own home again after spending the last 6 months squashed into my sons bedroom.
