Independent financial advisors: anyone used an IFA? was it helpful?

I have to face the fact that I have several near-useless miniscule pension plans due to swapping jobs a lot, and the thought of a penniless/dependent old age is really scaring me. DH had said I need to sort out a personal pension instead which our joint earnings would contribute towards but I have no clue about which to choose. So...if I found an IFA, would they be able to help me with a plan and pension advice? Or am I better off with CAB or something else? If anyone can help, I would be so grateful - it's really a deep seated fear that I've been ignoring for too long.

Definitely contact an IFA - get a recommendation from friends/family - they'll be able to find the right product that'll meet your exact need - don't think CAB would be specialist enough for your needs?

I think an IFA is probably what you need. Having said that, they were singularly useless for us. No concept at all of stoozing an offset, and completely hopeless when it came to finding life insurance for a psoriasis sufferer!

Thanks, sorry it's taken ages to reply haven't had the chance. I will search out an IFA. It's one of those issues where I really need to take my head out of my bottom the sand and face up to it rather than wasting time worrying!

We use one. Went on recommendations when choosing ours. Too early for us to say if the one we use is any good, but MIL (who has used them for several years) has done very well on their advice (even in the present market).
