Basically dp put cash in the bank as i noticed we were going to run short as tax credits were due in 1 day later than we thought!
I have now had two £35 charges £70 for two transactions totalling £20
Apparantly there is nothing they can do and it's no good putting cash in as money can come out before the bank opens! And it doesn't matter whether it's a transaction for a £1 or £100

So there goes our food shopping for a week just before xmas great!!
And into January with even less money

Its not the Halifax is it?

I've heard some DREADFUL stories about how unforgiving they are. I made a mistake on the payroll, and they ran up huge charges on this poor guy, and wouldn't even listen when I said it wasn't his fault. The company picked up the bill for the charges.

Have a look at the money saving expert website - they have a guide to claiming back excessive bank charges. I know its all up in the air at the moment, what with the latest court case, but its at least worth a go!

Sorry to hear of your plight

spot on Halifax i hate them!
I mentioned the claiming back and said they are still charging as normal until the case in court is resolved!

They are rip off merchants there would be uproar if they charged that apr on a credit card !

£70 is a hell of a lot of money at the moment and i am sure as damn it, it didn't cost them that however they dress it up!

Claim anyway, if I were you, follow the procedures on that website. There'll be a flood of cases once the court case is settled, I should think. The Halifax seem to be the worst of the lot, which doesn't really help you

I'm with HSBC and they've always refunded "as a gesture of goodwill" whenever I've made a mistake over the amount of money in the account.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 05/12/2008 17:34

I'm with the Halifax and they always do this to me they are bastards as soon as I get my PGCE and am teaching earning a regular wage i'm going to delight in telling them to F off!

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 05/12/2008 17:35

ahh now you see I'm with the Halifax - have been since I was 14 - so 15yrs now and never had any problems with them.

HSBC on the other hand............complete and utter f*ckers - well I guess they're ok as long as you're doing ok financially as soon as the shit hits the fan and (as you're supposed to) you go and speak to them to try and resolve your financial issues they don't want to knwo.

MaryBeWaiting · 05/12/2008 17:39

Well, no way am I OK financially, am in permanent overdraft, and frequently touch the limit, but I HAVE been with HSBC since I was 18...

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 05/12/2008 19:52

Ledodgy same for me as soon as i can bring in a wage again and get straight i will be going anywhere but them.
I have been with them since a kid had savings account and moved on from there apparantly means nothing!

its a really hard situation but i would write to the bank, i work for a bank and believe it or not i have been in the same situation recently 150 of chgs, its unreal, they may refund charges once, but try to stay within your limit or the next time u will be charged and it wont be refunded, write a detailed letter explaining that you are not able to get your head above water .

good luck

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 05/12/2008 20:35

thanks hunny worth a try
we have been staying within our limit it's just that tax credits came in a day later than we expected and dp wages paid into another account so he has to manually withdraw and pay cash into our account.
Nothing else we could have done but makes me so mad that we paid cash into our account on that day and just have to take the banks word for it that we were overdrawn at some point in the day.
