Doing about 35 in a 30 zone? What should I expect?

Thanks, Wonk. He was rubbish at crossing the road which I am sure was a factor. You can't blame drivers for everything. I am also convinced he would have died even if the driver was doing 10mph, because he was quite old and frail.

He would have approved. There's a lot of gallows humour in my family.

I feel I should just channel a comment from him that came in through the psychic route:

Q. What was the last thing going through Grandad's mind as the car hit him?

A. His backside!!

Sorry about your grandad too boffin.

I am definitely for speed limits in urban areas. Agree with holidaywonk on the pet hate - we have dual carriageway which turns into a single carriageway for about a mile through a residential area and the amount of people that go speeding through there at 40 when the limit has gone down to 30/drive up your ass trying to make you go faster/dangerously undertake you in the bus lane or parking spaces drives me mad - especially when there are kids going/coming from school and crossing the road!

I so wish they would put cameras up - not the speed ones the ones that capture every car going past.

BlueSapphire77 · 29/12/2008 18:59

I just went on a speed awareness course.
No points but paid 60 quid for it.
And its an eye opener i can tell ya.

Time for a joke...given to me by a police officer, Whats the difference between a copper with a speed camera and going down on a woman?
Going down on a woman you can see the c**t behind the bush
Crap i know...
but good luck and hope nothing comes of camera thingy

Got done in November - 63 in 50 mile stretch on motorway. £60 fine and 3 points on licence. However I am aware that in some areas, especially if around 35 in 30mph, that a driving course is offered instead of points which means it won't affect your insurance. Course costs around £80 - not sure if you get a fine on top of that.

Indiechick · 29/12/2008 19:32

Just to update you, I haven't had a ticket yet or offer to do an awareness course.
I have however severely reduced my speed and am now being flashed by irritated drivers constantly for keeping within the 30mph limit. Sometimes do get a little worried about them ramming the back of my car with frustration but I guess if they did, I would be in the clear for not breaking the speed limit.

Ignore the flashers - you're in the right! If it's any consolation, I flash drivers who drive too fast around here. It's a residential area, 30 mph, but some of the residents obviously that's way too slow for them - that's you I'm talking too Mr Fiat who overtook the driver 2 in front of me tonight who was doing the correct 30 along a residential street

WishItWouldSnow · 29/12/2008 22:23

I had someone tailgait me the other day so I stuck to the limit and touched the brakes a couple of times to warn him off. I was getting so cross as I couldn't even see his headlights in my rear view mirror and think that is really a bit stupid. I so wished that he would have driven in to the back of me and taken the consequences.

Anyway - he followed me and stopped outside my parents house alongside my car. I jumped out and cheerfully said "what's the matter?" as he was giving me a really hard stare.
He blamed me for driving at 40 in a 60 zone (clearly illegal??) and then braking dangerously. I told him to clear off and he said "Next time I see you B*ch I am going to have you" I asked mum to get his reg no but stupid man gave me his name which was really useful for reporting to the police!!

Sorry to sidetrack this thread just wanted to say....

paolosgirl · 29/12/2008 22:27

What a charming man - thick as well as ignorant. His mother must be so proud. Did you report him?

WishItWouldSnow · 29/12/2008 22:37

Well....after he said what he said the first time I asked him if he was threatening me and he said no. So I repeated what he said and then the bright spark said it again...

I called the police as soon as I got to my house thinking that they wouldn't give a monkeys but they said that this was totally wrong and I could make a complaint. So I did, unfortunately as my mum didn't take down his reg no properly and there were no independant witnesses it would be impossible to prosecute. But I did get a message from a PC who said that they were going to go to his address and if car was there matching my description then they would have a word with him about his driving behaviour and attitude. I did have 4 DCs in the car with me at the time.

I imagine he was one of those blokes who moans about the state of the country and the youth today and their terrible behaviour IYKWIM.

holidaywonk · 29/12/2008 22:50

I know what you mean about arse-ramming tossers, indiechick. WHY are so many drivers so intent on breaking the 30 limit? I really don't understand it. I mean, I can understand creeping over the limit because you're not paying attention, but the deliberate flouting of the 30 limit, and behaving as though it's your god-given right to break the law... makes me
