My SD has expressed interest in ocming ot live with us when she does her A Levels. WE are about 90 miles away from her mum.

Obviously we are more than happy for her to do so, but have no idea what happens re finances in various areas.

Will her mum lose her WFTC?
What about Child Benefit?

Dh pays throught he CSA for her and my ss. What happens if she lives with us?

As a single mum, would her mum get money to help her go to university, if she chose this option?

Help!!!!!

her mum would lose any benefit relating to having her daughter living with her. the wftc really depends on her income, the hours she works etc. you don't have to have a child to be entitled to it. you do for child tax credit. you'd have your income recalculated to see if you'd be entitled to anything with having an extra child living with you. and you'd get the child benefit.

as for uni, again it depends on income and who she declares she is living with when she applies for funding. student loan isn't means tested anyway, so she'd get the full lot if she wanted it. the issue really would be tuition fees. she'd only have to pay these if the parent she says she lives with earns over a certain amount. if it's a problem she can apply for a loan to pay the fees anyway.

student finance

sorry it's the other way round. that site explains it very well.

ruddynorah, the student maintenance loan (as opposed to the fees loan)loan is partly means tested - you only get 75% automatically, the rest depends on the income of the parent the student is living with.

So, if littlerach's DSD's mum is a single parent, and DSD was living with her, then only her income would be taken into account, but if she lives with her dad and littlerach, then littlerach's income would be taken into account too.

She could also get up to £30 a week EMA while she is doing A levels - this goes directly to her, so she'd need a bank account
