Anyone got any reassuring/uplifting stories about how they have paid off their debts?

Could do with hearing them to give me hope! After having a house with a mortgage empty with no tenant for 9 months (we live abroad and rent), residue from mat leave debt, a necessary recent house move to unfurnished property so all furniture needed buying plus agency fees, 3 mths deposit etc etc I have a hefty amount of debt I need to clear. I am freelance and can earn reasonable money (or nothing!), DP earns enough to cover his half of rent and nothing more so debt repayment has to come from me. Positive news is we now have a tenant in uk which nearly covers the mortgage (rents are sooo low at the moment), we have no other big expenses due and so I can now look at bringing it down not adding to it. I know I will do it but I would love to hear about peopes experiences of how they have done the same to give me reassurance it can be done. My head is telling me I can bring it down and clear it and I will continue to earn money but then I panic, think what if I stop earning/the credit card companies demand all the money back/my tenant leaves. It is starting to keep me awake at night. I also can't shake off a feeling of shame at having debt. My parents had real financial problems for years and I just equate debt with disaster!
