Am I the only one to have bought from the Next Directory website without realising...

...that I've entered into a credit agreement?

I bought something from the website a few weeks ago and it gives you two options: 1) to pay for a catalogue and get free delivery (2) to not pay for a catalogue but pay for delivery instead. I chose the latter, as it appeared to not tie me into any further agreement with them.

Well, having received my goods, this morning I've received a statement in the post detailing the terms of my credit agreement, saying I have £300 credit allowance, etc etc. Excuse me? I have even re-read the t&cs and nowhere does it say that they automatically do this - it says "A Next Directory Flexible Account ("Next Account") may be opened for you and you will be charged £3.75 for your first and each subsequent Next Directory." It also says later on that they will request a signature to confirm this agreement.

As far as I was aware, when I ordered my goods I was just buying something off a website - the same as I've done from every other website for years.

Am I the only one who's been fooled like this? They shall be getting stern words from me in the morning.

Me too. Totally didn't realise it was a credit agreement. But thought it odd that I got a bill. I do loads of shopping online and admit I didn't pay any attention.

Have been ignoring bill meaning to check my bank statements to prove I'd already paid. Hadn't thought it could affect my credit rating - will have to sort pronto!

Love internet shopping. Loathe Next online. Complete nightmare cock-up, catalogue of errors the only time i tried to order from them, and that's before you add in the credit agreement which I wasn't aware of and was deeply annoyed about. I wrote to them to complain about general uselessness and cheek of not making clear the credit commitment. They sent me £25 voucher which I used in the shop. Hardly a fortune, but worth the price of a stamp.

Puppy, I ordered through Next online with a fake dob...and it worked! Didn't realise about the credit thing until afterwards, though, the CROOKS! I just assumed they wanted my dob for nosy marketing purposes. Will contact them right away

I wanted something from next for my ds's bedroom which I found online after much searching. Couldn't find anything similar elsewhere so had to be Next. I didn't want to open an account and certainly didn't want to pay for a cataolgue so I rang up to query how I could order without doing this. They took my order over the phone, I paid in full and made sure they were fully aware I did NOT want a catalogue or account. I have not had any problems and not received a catalogue.

So I did get my goods without the account etc. But it was a hassle. Haven't bought anything from them since, even though I quite like the stuff they have. Website tends to make my computer crash after I look at a few pages too. It's so inconvienient to find something on there and loads too many pictures at once imo.

They loose out on my business. But that's their problem not mine

But surely as you can't and don't pay when ordering your goods with Next then it is considered buying on credit? Or am I missing something here.

LadyOfRObamaffle · 14/11/2008 12:22

Oh no, how awful! I found a few nice bits and bobs for the DSs' but there is no way I want an account with them! Well, they will lose my business for definate then. How sneaky of them! Slough has a big nex store and it still doesn't stock any of the nice stuff!

MrsThierryHenry · 14/11/2008 17:04

JHKE, I entered my card details when ordering (I'm sure I did) so to all intents and purposes it was a straightforward internet purchase.

I have also boycotted Next as I ordered something from them and they charged me for TWO catalogues, a normal one and one of their seasonal ones, which seems to be a smaller version of their normal one, so with delivery fees came to over £13 before I'd even got my one little thing!!

I phoned up to query but they wouldn't take anything off, so as I have cancelled account and never use them. They didn't seem that bothered! Though I do a lot of other internet shopping!

I wonder if Next will see this thread?!

Hmm. I order from Next quite often. I do have an account with them now, but always pay in full. I usually get a code so I don't pay delivery and its much cheaper than actually driving to a real shop.

Every time I order from them, I get a catalogue sent in the next few months. Then I email them and say I didn't want the catalogue, and how should I return it? And they say oh, just keep it but we'll take the charge off your account so you don't have to pay.

Then I order again and they send me another catalogue and I send them another email...

Dd quite likes cutting the catalogues up.
