National Share register - is there one?

Between a house move, a disorganised husband a useless IFA we appear to have lost all our share certificates (not that we have very many). Thisis obviuosly a problem as is the fact that any dividend cheques are now not getting through to us as the oayl amail redirection has now run out.

We can spend several weeks turning the house upside down to look for the certificates (which DH swears blind he sent to IFA to sell) or the counterfoils from previous dividend cheques to give us some idea of what's what but I was just wondering if there is some kind of national body through which all shares are registered that could give us the relevant infomation?

You need to contact the companies, or their registrars, for duplicate certificates. Look on their web sites and if you can't find any obvious help, write to the Company Secretary at the Registered Address.

There will be an administration fee, and probably a fee for an indemnity.

The counterfoils from the dividend cheques will be useful, as they will identify your share holding independently of your name and (previous) address.
