Maternity Pay and rights, why do they want me to speak to my manager?

I have phoned my HR dept and asked for some advice regarding maternity policy and pay and stuff.
When I phoned she said you need to speak to your manager which I said I didnt want to do.
Then they said look on the intranet which I can only do in work time , then it was 'leave your number' which I dont want to do.

I have only been in post 3 months, and am planning a pregnancy but just want to know what I'll be entitled to if anything, I dont have to give them any identifiable info do it?

I think they are being a bit mean, because your manager would probably check with them anyway, or simply print out the policy. HR are just forcing you to give the manager a hint you might be starting a family, when it could be years away yet.

Could you have a chat with a colleague (ideally a pregnant one) to find out the policies?
Or the union?

mosschops30, you are a nurse, aren't you?

AFAIR, you need to be in post 1 year before you get occ. mat pay, and then return for at least 3 months after.

Any continuous service in NHS counts, though, so if you had a substantive NHS post prior, it counts, e.g. as a care assistant.

yes lou I am. Have just spoken to someone lovely in HR

Youre right it does have to be 12 months but my bank nursing as an auxilliary doesnt count, even though ive worked for them for 4 years

So that leave me with benefits but iirc I wont get them because I havent paid tax for 3 years as a student nurse.

so I guess this means I can say goodbye to No. 3
