It's ten. Eight in Scotland which is the lowest in Europe.

Do I take it you have an 8 year old little bugger darling causing you grief??

cece · 23/10/2008 22:17

No it is definitely 10

monkeymonkeymonkey · 23/10/2008 22:45

It is 10. If you are having problems with a child below 10 doing things that would bring them to legal attention if they were older then social services may be a good first step.

mumoverseas · 24/10/2008 07:53

It is 10 as under 10 they are 'doli incapax' = incapable of committing a criminal act which I would have to question now! think the law needs re-thinking on this point.
Between ages 10 and 14 it needs to be proved that the child knew what they were doing was wrong before they can be prosecuted. Above 14 it is presumed that they were old enough to know what they were doing was wrong.
