Is it electric only, cos then that's a blinkin' lot Do you have no gas & even the it's still a lot unless you're in Buck House?

Jbck · 22/10/2008 16:20

Just realiesd you're running a cremolatorium, that'll have done it. They're a bugger on the juice.

Cremolatorium · 22/10/2008 16:20

a gas cooker( bottles)

unavailable · 22/10/2008 16:29

Were your previous bills (under)estimated?
This cant be right for just one quater, unless you live in a stately home. You will query it wont you?

janinlondon · 22/10/2008 16:33

Good God what was your usage????

sunshine185 · 22/10/2008 16:51

i would check your readings and query big time!! doesn't sound right even in a monopoly!!!

forevercleaningwithmybesoms · 22/10/2008 16:54

i find the energy saving light bulbs are not bright enough, and yes, you may save ten pounds by having them, but you end up with a prescription for mr magoo glasses instead

aGalChangedHerName · 22/10/2008 16:54

Electricity was £148 a month and gas was being put up to £124 a month. Have changed supplier so hoping to not pay a smuch, have also started with low energy bulbs and no tumble drying.

Cremolatorium · 22/10/2008 16:57

Our last bill was £296.07.
We have a normal house with average electricity usage.( I mean we are not running a business or a 007 Villain's Spy HQ)
There has been a 33% increase according to the The Leaflet.( apparently to bring us in line with the rest of the UK)
We are not alone. Everyone here is talking about it.We have the highest Electricity prices in the known Universe. It would be cheaper to live on the Strip at Vegas. I just despair for elderly people living alone. No wonder droves of them are clearing off to Spain.

nearly £400 quid to watch a bit of Tv and do the feckin ironing.

AtheneNoctua · 23/10/2008 09:46

Our gas and electric is £145 per month. So, £435 per quarter.

What's it cost in Spain then?

lal123 · 23/10/2008 09:48

Dear God - our gas and electric costs £46 per month - how come we're so little??

ElenorRigby · 23/10/2008 11:36

not much help but our last gs/electric bill was £900 odd

AtheneNoctua · 23/10/2008 14:31

Oh, do you live in a palace?

Ivegotaheadache · 25/10/2008 18:58

Actually, it sounds about right . We have a ke pad meter thing that was here when we bought the house, and it shows that we use £20-22 per week which would be about £100 per month or £300 per quarter. It's awful that NIE have the monopoly there should be at least one other company for a bit of competition.

Ivegotaheadache · 25/10/2008 19:02

Get a key pad meter fitted, they'll do it free, I know this as my neighbour just had one in. It's 2.5% cheaper (wow) and you don't notice the money going out the same as with quarterly bills.

cimeow · 26/10/2008 13:09

check your KWHR, also get bill check at advice bureau, and always give monthly meter readings or even better weekly etc.

cimeow · 26/10/2008 13:12

oh yeah my last quarter was £100, and i use a dishwasher, drier, washing machine, fridge freezer, separate freezer, 2 computers, games console, TV.

itwasntme · 26/10/2008 13:16

Electricity is expensive here in Spain too, unfortunately.

We had a 400 euro bill last winter, but I'd just had a baby and had electric heaters going all day.

I feel your pain.

Lmccrean · 29/10/2008 20:43

Cremolatorium, Im also in NI but bill wasnt quite as high (only 2 of us live in the house, but I am a childminder)

The NIE lady on the phone said it had gone up again since the bills went out - was actually a 45% hike. They referred me to energy saving trust who "could cut my bills by 50%" but they were unable to give any advice I wasnt already following....but maybe you can check out their website.

tuesdayafternoon · 29/10/2008 20:53

But the current bill covers Aug/Sept/Oct when it was mostly quite warm & still quite light so nearly £400 does sound really dodgy, even for a cremolatorium in NI.

We have gas heat & gas hob - everything else is leccy - our monthly DD is £71 & our usage really doesn't vary much between summer & winter (cos computer use is the same all year round, LOL)

Have they done a catch-up meter reading?

frazzled74 · 30/10/2008 14:36

I have worked out the energy consumed by us last year and worked out a direct debit monthly payment based on that (taking account of price increase). I will be paying Eon £100 per month to cover family of 5 in 3 bedroom terrace house. My challenge is to use less than last year and have my account in credit.
