I just used one of the price comparison sites recommended on moneysavingexpert.com

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 03/10/2008 16:01

see mine varies so much on all of the sites it's unbelieveable.

Direct line isn't on any comparison sites they were cheapest for me.

Just make sure that the cheapest ones have the things you want in a policy. Everyones varies a lot, that's what the comparison sites are for.

mumtomilkmonster · 03/10/2008 16:25

Managed to get mine from HSBC for £100 less than renewal with Privilege. Went on all the comparison sites, ensured I was getting protected NCB and same excesses etc then checked with existing company if they could match it (which they couldn't) and checked on the cashback sites to see if they offered stuff as well. Ended up getting it £100 less and hopefully (fingers crossed) should get £45 cashback from Quidco for doing it through them ! (Direct Line have been great for me in the past by the way.)

WantThisWantThat · 03/10/2008 16:35

Why not them - i'm with Tesco? Just curious. Someone crashed into the back of my car last year and I felt they sorted it all out fairly quickly and sent out loads of correspondence letting me know what's what. The car was a write off btw, but the payout was actually quite a bit more than what iwas expecting, especially since it was due an MOT and a service.

WantThisWantThat · 03/10/2008 16:37

And to add they also arranged a courtesey car really quickly even though I wasn't part of my policy (because it was the other driver's fault, though, but that wasn't proven at the time cause he said it wasn't - dimwit!)

purpleturtle · 03/10/2008 16:41

I'm with ibuyeco.com which came up with a cheaper quote than I had been paying, and factors in a small charge for carbon offsetting.

Have only had to trouble them for a windscreen replacement, which was sorted very efficiently.

curlywurlycremeegg · 03/10/2008 16:41

I have also found Tesco's great when someone hit me, car badly damaged, sorted out replacement car for me the next day. OH insured with HSBC, had accident this month and they were really poor, four days without a courtesy car, dispite it being on his policy.

midnightexpress · 03/10/2008 16:44

Try Simple. We got a reduction on the previous year of about 400 quid!

ohdearwhatamess · 03/10/2008 16:46

Admiral. Been with them for 6 years (I think). When we renew they always come up with some ludicrous figure and then I phone and get them to match the lowest online quote (just saved £155).

MIL had lots of problems with M&S when claiming on a policy, so I wouldn't use them.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 03/10/2008 16:56

wt&t - because i've been with them for 4 years and not had any reductions yet!

cash back sites - what are they?

OP posts:
kittenloren · 03/10/2008 17:06

I ended up going with RAC this year with (fingers crossed!) £80 cashback from Quidco for a fully comp policy with Euro driving included and RAC roadside assistance.

After cashback, it undercut my renewal with the Pru by £76 - not to be sniffed at in these cash-strapped times...

LIZS · 03/10/2008 17:07

M and S(Norwich Union) cheaper than Direct Line

Tamarto · 03/10/2008 17:11

Go back to tesco with the cheapest online offer, ask them if they can match it, if they say no ask what the best they can do is and go from there.

LIZS - Not for me it wasn't. That's the thing with insurers everyone is quoted differently, but if you know and like a company sometimes that is better than getting the cheapest price going and bad service.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 03/10/2008 17:18

what's quidco? I could use cash back at the mo!

OP posts:
LIZS · 03/10/2008 17:20

Direct line wouldn't match ours

ilovemcdreamy · 03/10/2008 17:22

Sheila's Wheels - came out best by a mile when I used www.confused.com

Lolly68 · 03/10/2008 17:42

Diamond - very good for women.

kittenloren · 26/10/2008 22:15

Quidco

MascaraOHara · 26/10/2008 22:21

I was with TEsco and there customer service was fantastic when someone went up the back of me.. seriously they were bloody excellent. but then they upped their price on me (dramatically) even though my new car had a smaller engine etc (I hadn't lost my no claims)

I did some seraching around and ended up with a VERY cheap fully comp policy through 'click insurance'

The one thing I would say is... have a look on some consumer sites, when I started investigating the really cherap quotes I found lots of negative write up about customer services.

nannyL · 26/10/2008 22:24

M&S gave me the cheapest quote
