We're just trying to get this sorted. However, i am at the quotes that are coming back. Don't know if everyone is actually paying this kind of amount and i am just naive...

About £40 each

poppy34 · 09/09/2008 11:52

27 quid I think -dh nearer 40 as bit older

ja9 · 09/09/2008 12:31

that's what i was expecting to pay. the cheapest option we have been quoted is £120 for the 2 of us - but advising us to take the £185 or £260 option

We don't have life insurance as such, just that one which pays off your mortgage if either of you die (thus the amount decreases as your mortgage decreases). It's about £25 per month I think.

Lubyloo · 09/09/2008 12:35

You all seem to be paying a lot! Do you want purely life insurance or critical illness cover. I pay just over £8 per month for £150,000 of level term life cover. Dh pays £9 something per month also for £150,000.

We used the broker Lifesearch to find our insurance and I was very impressed with them.

WilfSell · 09/09/2008 12:35

how old are you? Have they included critical illness and /or income protection insurance? If you don't want this, remove it from the cover and bet the price is much lower...

WilfSell · 09/09/2008 12:36

Cavendish online as recommended by Mr Moneysaving Expert very cheap, as is Tesco

WilfSell · 09/09/2008 12:36

yes, decreasing term assurance cheaper than level term assurance also...

coppertop · 09/09/2008 12:39

Mine is around £17 a month. Dh is a little older than me so his is about £20 per month.

QuintessentialShadow · 09/09/2008 12:42

Dh is £13 per month. Mine is £9 per month. We have one each, rather than a joint policy. So if I die, he get my payout. If he then dies, the kids get his payout. With a joing policy, the surving spouse get the payout, and nobody else when the other die.

We are insured for £200.000 - not connected with mortgage.

Lubyloo · 09/09/2008 12:43

Lifesearch

We also took a separate income protection plan through them and feel that we got a very good deal with this and some good advice.

cocolepew · 09/09/2008 12:46

£17.46 for me DH and, God forbid, our DDs. It's with Legal and General for £100,000, no critical illness and stops when our mortgage is paid of.

FeelingLucky · 09/09/2008 12:59

DH about £26 a month, me about £23
ours is decreasing term assurance where they'll pay off mortgage and give us a lump sum
Separate covers for same reason as QuintessentialShadow states.
No critical illness (very difficult to claim) or income protection (we're both freelancers)

Life cover will vary for everyone depending on age, sex, where you live and a whole host of other things including do you smoke, married, single or divorced. Have a look at my website for more information Life insurance

MrsTittleMouse · 10/09/2008 19:33

I pay £16 and DH pays £18 for term insurance with premiums that are the same for the whole term. I can't remember the exact terms, but it's something like £200,000 each (separate policies) and 25 years (to get the DDs through college). It doesn't have critical illness cover, and it was from a comparison website.

We are lucky that neither of us has any serious illness though, which obviously makes a big difference.

Goober · 10/09/2008 19:35

£24 for us both.
