Will Guidance Needed re Guardianship etc

DH and I are aware we need to update our Wills to reflect our family's situation. At the moment, we have got some old friends as guardians to our DDs, estate is divided up between them but in trust until a certain age but trustees can OK expenditure for education. Eldest DD is almost 17 but is very ill and will not be pursuing education for some time. If she was well she could be more or less independent but will not be able to for the foreseeable future. Youngest DD has learning difficulties and can be difficult to deal with. We do not really feel that our friends could be expected to take on all this (they are not close friends now although we are still in regular contact). However, there is no one who could be asked to take on so much. We have people who could advise DD1 but not take on a carer role and also deal with DD2s difficulties. I have no family and DHs parents are getting on in years and have never had much appreciation of the situation anyway. Sorry this is so long, but I am in desperate need of some guidance as to what to do and is there anywhere I could go for specialist help with this.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Can't really offer any advice though.

I haven't got the same situation but I have made it clear to my friends who are the legal guardians that I do not expect them to bring my children up themselves (they have 2 guardians who are unrelated to each other IYSWIM) however I trust their juedgement in the case of my children being adopted and that the youngest 3 must stay as a family unit (eldest with go to her Dad).

I hope that gives you some other avenues to explore.

I would hope that my guardians would stay in touch with my dc so they have someone to ask what I was like etc etc and to put the dc interests first etc. I have another friend who will be the executor of the will and look after the money side of stuff.

Our DD2 has special needs and I found Cerebra and Mencap very helpful; they have literature with advice about will and trust planning.
