Just done my renewal (totally forgot until now) and it turns out that tax credits have under paid us we earned £785 less than estimate last year, will i get this off them? how will it be paid?

Has anyone had this happen to them?

TIA

This happened to my sister and she got a lump sum and my neighbour just got a grand from them for underpayment .

Nemoandthefishes · 18/07/2008 14:03

should be a payment into your bank seperate from the normal one

lilyloo · 18/07/2008 14:05

It depends as i earnt less than i estimated due to being on mat leave for part of it so earnt about £1,500 less but only got £35 extra off tc.
Don't think they pay you the amount you have underestimated.

pucca · 18/07/2008 14:06

Hurrah, thats good then, i was wanting to sign up to a college course but we can't really afford it (will get no help with fees and we only just earn over) so hopefully i can pay with any money i get back from TC.

Although it may slightly bump up this years payments.

pucca · 18/07/2008 14:08

Oh right, well not sure on that one, has anyone else had this happen?

OP posts:
lilyloo · 18/07/2008 15:09

will bump think boredverybored around

boredveryverybored · 18/07/2008 15:17

It depends on how much we owe you and at what point in the tax year the underpayment is discovered. You will get it all back, but how I can't say for definite.
You may get a one off lump sum payment for the full amount. You may get a small lump payment and the rest spread over your current award, or it may all be spread over the award!
Sorry I can't give any more definite answers. If you call us though, we can see imediately how it's going to be paid to you, if its been processed

boredveryverybored · 18/07/2008 15:19

Sorry just noticed that you've only just done your renewal. Any underpayment will take a while to process. When you get your new award notice for this tax year, underpayment and payent details will be on there

lilyloo · 18/07/2008 15:20

thanks bvb i must have got small payment and then the rest spread over this year then tis very confusing.
Especially as i on mat leave and working out income for this year is a nightmare as for some of it i will get mat pay some of it i won't and some of it i will be working
Pucca hope you get lump sum then as the little extra each month often get's swallowed up!

boredveryverybored · 18/07/2008 15:24

Lily don't forget to deduct £100 for each week your in receipt of SMP (if you are) before you declare income to us. Is an allowance for thos on at leave. Leaves you with lower income to declare and higher TC payents

davidtennantsmistress · 18/07/2008 15:28

sorry can I hijack quick. bvvb, if you don't mind, can you answer a question for me - XH & I split last September, I think we've been underpaid for the last year, (we've done the review thingys but he didn't ask about it all and i'd already rung my figures thru) but not sure by how much - the esitamte I was a little generous with - figuring it's better to over esitmate than under. anyhow, how will any money be paid back to us? we still have the old bank account but it's for XH's use only and not mine, so I/DS wouldn't get any under repayment back. my current award goes into a seperate account. to give you a rough idea I put his salary down as £25K and he actually had £22K.

boredveryverybored · 18/07/2008 15:38

Dtm the underpayment probably won't be a massive amount. £3k difference equates to very little in tax credits. As to how it will be paid, thats tricky. If it was an underpayment in child tax credits and you are the main carer it should all be due to you, if it was WTC and he was only worker then its all due to him. iyswim.
I'm not 100% sure and would have to check, but I think for payments being ade on a claim that is now ended, we are more likely to send out a giro than deposit in the bank.
I would call and check though, if theres a chance that he will get the money.

lilyloo · 18/07/2008 15:38

thanks bvb i realised that this time with dc3 never knew that or claimed it with others!
You gonna be hounded on here

davidtennantsmistress · 18/07/2008 16:49

thanks bvb, the money is from tax credits we were not entitled to WTC's apparently. am getting him to ring again tonight, apparently they wouldn't talk to him the same day he failed their security check - only hope they do today as I don't want to have to repay the money we have had if we've not rung them by the 31st july, (or indeed for them to stop my current award)

mashedup · 19/07/2008 00:48

Hi. I was underpaid by £270 tax credits last year, and was recently sent a cheque for that amount. This was after they told me I had been overpaid by the same amount last year and deducted £10 pwk from my CTC.

pucca · 19/07/2008 00:51

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to get your paperwork through once you have renewed? can't remember (was only last year too! lol).

OP posts:
boredveryverybored · 19/07/2008 13:56

Can take a few weeks to get it through pucca. With so many to send out I think they stagger them so the posties don't get overwhelmed

jofeb04 · 19/07/2008 15:46

I've recived the additional payment today (!) as we were also underpaid!

It took about two weeks from when we sent the paperword to today. Still haven't recieved any paperwork though!

boredveryverybored · 19/07/2008 15:59

The money always comes before the paperwork, if it's being paid into a bank, cos they send both at the same time You should get the paperwork in the next few days.

jofeb04 · 19/07/2008 16:15

Thanks for the info!

Hi i'm a little confused by this also, in oct'10 my husband switched jobs litterally after 26wks, we immediately let TC know.. when we renewed in 2011 they based the claim on his P60 for the previous year [which amounted to about 800 more than his new salary because of the switch mid year] once we knew what his income was set at we called them up to avoid an underpaymen [as previously so as to avoid overpayment first time], We were told to leave it and it would be dealt with at the end of financial year april'12.. [We have been underpaid for the whole year not just part].
In the mean time my son who was at college decided to start claiming at the job centre just last week, once again i immediately let them know [it has of course gone down even more].. My question is, should I have asked for it to be reassesed as soon as we knew of the underpayment instead of leaving it as advised or will it be dealt with in april when we complete the declaration and renewal?

lilemz · 30/05/2012 17:25
