washing machine

OK, my landlord has decided that the washing machine he has been paying to have mended for the past year is nothing to do with him, and it was just coincidence that it was in the house when we moved in, so now it has given up the ghost (it was probably older than me) we need a new one. How much are they? The cheapest I have found up to now online is £179, is it worth going to brighthouse or similar and getting one on hire purchase? We really are very skint at the moment, so if it's gonna be £179, we're just going to have to use the laundrette and my mums house till my student loan comes in. Any solutions? Oh, and my credit rating is rubbish so I wouldn't be able to get one on credit.

have you tried ebay? i just got a machine and tbh the cheapest was about £199 in currys.

have a look in your yellow pages for a reconditioned appliance shop near you. they can be very good - I admittedly am on my first machine, but my mum's had second hand ones which lasted 10 years

  • careful of ebay though. a shop will give you a 3 month guarantee (which doesn't sound much, but does mean they won't have bodged the repairs.)

you might find one on free cycle

(my boss gave away a lovely bosch one a few months ago)

I'd look for a second hand one if you can (or freecycle) - we got a really nice Bosch one for £70 a while ago and it's been great.
