Hi Deany I had cause to ring the tax office yesterday with a query(long story)

I have received a leaflet today

"If your employment income for the year is more than £5435 ......tax will be deducted as follows

-20% on first £36,000
-40% on anything over this

No idea on the rest.My blardy employers have had me on wrong tax code for ages unbeknownst to me !!Could you ring the IR to ask??

Sorry,not much help really!

17k - 45k, 17k - 45k would not take me long to rip there arm off, i mean accept the position

deanychip · 01/07/2008 14:56

no its not that easy, its the working hours, and the requirements.
going to look into it carefully.
i know it sounds very good on the surface but childcare is a huge issue.

deany - I am in a similar position! Am on 10k a year - part time, local, fits in with school hours, one day off a week. But boring as hell! Have applied for a £42k a year job - fantastic role - but again it's full time, would involve an M25 commute, childcare etc.

I'm applying then if I do by some miracle get it I'll try and negotiate felxible working.....

Would be sooooo much easier without the dcs!

If you will be getting a company car your tax will be much higher.
You may be better off financially if you chose to opt out of the company car scheme and take the allowance to lease your own car instead.
At 45k you would be entitled to a small amount of tax credits if yours is the only income.

Was earning 45k a couple of yrs ago, had a company car and take home was around 2200.
