What age are you planning to retire

I work in healthcare and I love my job and would be happy to just continue on till normal retirement age. However although the majority of the people I care for seem really happy and appreciative of my care, I’m becoming disillusioned by increasing number of people who ask for a change of practitioner (only up to 2-3 a year and never for any report of clinical failing or rudeness) but still feels demoralising each time. Therefore I’m thinking of retiring as soon as we can get the mortgage paid off (around 60 if we overpay etc) Just wondering what age other people are thinking of retiring and how planning to fund or if you work in healthcare have your or would you consider to switching another job nearer retirement?

I really like my job and I'm well paid so I'm in no hurry! 67-70 maybe? Maybe drop down to 3 or 4 days a week when I get to 65. Tbh most of the people who I know who retired early don't do an awful lot, and seemed to have aged disproportionately quickly. Assuming I live to 80 - God willing - I think 10-12 years of idleness is enough! We have about $2M in retirement savings between us but with three kids to put through college I want to have more of a buffer. I certainly wouldn't be retiring to become dependent on social security/state pension.

Retired at 57 and loving it.
OH is 3yrs younger and went down to 2-days/week but he is going to retire completely next year.
If you can afford it..... do it!!!!!.
You don't have to ask other people's permission or get their approval, if you think it is the right thing for you then do it.... life is too short.

I’d like to be in a financial position to retire at 60.

Whether I actually will retire or not depends on how I feel when I get there! Ideally would drop down to a couple of days a week, but that’s difficult in my industry.

I will be retiring the day I die, as im 58 now and can't imagine not working. I hate being at home, hate housework, only take time off if I'm actually going away on holiday or out for a day.

Ive been widowed 22 yrs with 2 young kids so could not afford to pay into a pension and still can't.

I'd love to continue in my job into my 70s. I work 2 to 2.5 days a week, largely under my own steam, just 10 minutes walk from my house. I'm very lucky.

At 57 in 5 years time. The bulk of my teacher is agr 60 so there wont be much of a reduction.

Debating a part time role in a similar job. I keep looking when librarian jobs come up and think that might be something to supplement the pension for a while. Or exam invigilation.

I’m 58 on the NHS. I could go at 60. My plan is maybe 63-65 although maybe longer. I will go as soon as it’s not enjoyable. I’ve been in ‘my last job’ (as someone above said) for 35 years and I absolutely love it. I get a bit said at the thought of retiring. No mortgage and no dependant children. Husband retired.

I'm 62 and still working although would love to retire now. Will get state pension at 67 and will be living off that when I retire (fortunately no mortgage or rent to pay). Trying to work out if I have enough savings now to fill the gap until 67.

NHS here. I’ll take my 1995 pension at 60, still deciding whether to carry on for a bit, work part time or sack it off and travel. I’m single, kids all grown, mortgage free with a rental I will sell when I’m 60.
i love my job though and work is also a social thing for me as I live in a new area it’s 2 years away so still a while to decide!

I’m 50 and happy in my job. I’ll probably carry on until I get made redundant, which, I would not be surprised if it could happen at some point in the next few years.

I think I’ll go soon, at 56. Feeling very demoralised with lazy colleagues, changes for changes sake, and around 50% of clients who DNA our extra clinics. The lazy staff have won, I’m fed up of doing their work with management not doing anything about it when it’s pointed out, so I’m out.

Current plan is semi retire at 60, I’ll have 20K a year I can get in a pension plus a small ish lump sum of about 40K. Mortgage will be gone by then and if DD goes to uni she’ll have finished by then. Next pension can be claimed at 68 which will be worth another 20K per year (and any state then too). I’ll probably do contract work until 63 ish then use savings to bridge the gap to 68. I’m coming up to 47.

I'm 52 and work in the public sector (but not NHS). Not sure when I will retire but 60 at the earliest. Financially we would be ok to retire earlier, but I enjoy my job and don't want to stop working yet.

I’m 59. I was planning 61 but I may flexibly retire then stop at 64.

I think it’s the people who are replying. There is over 10 million people on here. And you can see on any thread about money, most people are average to below average earners, the demographic follows the pattern of the population,

I probably am middle class but I’ve worked since I was 18, full time apart from 3x maternity leaves and 30+ years in the NHS, my second career.

I’ve paid into private and then NHS pensions since I was 20 years old. Yep I’m happy to be able to retire at 60 if I want to. I’ve been careful since I divorced 6 years ago - not a lucrative divorce btw very bog standard, no windfall!

The day I turn 55 in January. Just completing my paperwork this weekend. NHS nurse lucky to have SCS so no penalty.
DH retired at 55 in June.

I think the age at which people can retire depends on inheritance and whether they are in a long stable partnership. Unfortunately I am both divorced and have no inheritance so am building my retirement pot alone from earnings.

For a number of years I had thought I would sell up and move to a cheaper location in order to retire earlier but now I find that I love where I live (albeit it’s too blooming hot at the moment) and don’t want to move. So my plan is to aim for 67, whilst continuing to save, but may try to go part time at 64/65. Currently enjoying my job which makes a massive difference.

July 2028, aged 60. Could afford to live off savings now, but where we live our jobs and healthcare are intertwined and DH has cancer. If he has to stop work altogether, we need me to be in employment so he can access healthcare via my employer.

He's 62, and we had planned to retire at the same time in 2028. I might be a widow before then 😢

Current plan is end of 2031 where I’ll be 3 months short of being 62. That may well be a moot point as it’s entirely possible I’ll be made redundant before then. Hoping to get another couple of years under my belt before then if possible. DH has technically retired already as he did not go back to work after being a SAHD. I am 56 and he is 58 now.
