Hi
I am thinking of going on the sick at work and need to know what the procedure is for notifying work, and how to claim sick pay as its something I have never done.

How does this work I only work 21 hours a week which is spread out over 2 nightshifts a week.
I earn about £105 a week.
What is the procedure do I need to produce a self certification and a sick note together.
Who pays my sick pay and how much is it.
Somebody told me I need to give my work a self certification for the first 3 days I am off, and then I have to provide them with a sick note.
Is this correct do I have to fill in any complicated forms or is this all I have to do.
Do I have to pay for a sick note.

your employer pays it to you, they claim it back from the government.

it isn't payable for 1st 3 days you're sick.

you have to provide a sick note to your employer if you're off over 7 days. that means a week, not 7 shifts. you don't pay for the sick note under normal circumstances.

I think that this may answer your questions. The important thing to note is that you do not get statutory sick pay for the first 3 working days.

Employers sometimes have their own system of sick pay which is more generous so it is worth checking your contract.
