PIP advice

didntsignupfothis · 18/05/2026 13:28

I applied for PIP due to several conditions I have. In my application it covered one of them, that my anxiety is triggered by meeting new people and taking phone calls. This then spirals into being completely overwhelmed, panic, then shut down which is really distressing and won’t be of any use to anyone.
They sent out a letter asking me to take a phone call to go over my application. Now I know most applications get a further meeting/phone call to clarify some information etc but why arrange a phone call when one of the things I struggle with, is exactly that.
They then sent a form asking for a reason for not taking the call to which I replied the same as I mentioned above and I got a text today saying that I missed my first appointment and they will call me again today.
Can anyone advise what I could do so that my claim doesn’t get thrown out completely?

How is OP going to deal with a face to face meeting if she can’t face new people @Bromptotoo ? Wouldn’t a phone call demonstrate how difficult the OP finds these situations and work in her favour?

That's where Reasonable Adaptations come in.

OP and DWP need to find a way that works for them both.

Thank you, a reply that wasn’t rude.

Thank you, a reply that wasn’t rude.

Perhaps I saw something that wasn't there but the initial response seemed to say the OP would just have to 'man up' and do it.

And if they couldn't tough titty; no access to PIP.

As in the example of agoraphobia, which was real and happened when I worked for CAB, people can't do that which is impossible for them.

You need to be assessed so need to take the call, if needed a trusted friend or family member can answer with you say there but you do need to talk to them, either over the phone or in person. They can’t give you money by just saying I won’t talk to you, we could all try that. Do you have specialists to vouch for this selective mutism /extreme anxiety?

What extra costs do you have due to this anxiety?

Shes not claiming for anxiety. She has anxiety

Can anyone help with how much we can get, please?

I am in a similar place to the OP.

How are you in a similar place op hasn't said what her medical conditions are ?

PurpleLovecats · 18/05/2026 15:55

I get PIP for MH. I was lucky that they just accepted my initial application with no interviews but actually I think doing a phone consultation might help you as they will experience how hard you find it?

Similar to the OP, I suffer from acute anxiety too, and need the support.

I have underlying conditions.

But op could be a blind quardoplegic (spelling 🙈) and you could have ibs. The outcomes will not be the same. Even if you had the same diagnosis the outcome would still not be the same

You are increasing my anxiety levels.

CAB can help with PIP applications.

CAB can help with PIP applications.

And with advice on Reasonable Adjustments.

itsgettingweird · 18/05/2026 21:11

You can have an advocate.

I speak for my ds as he’s autistic and doesn’t always understand what they are asking.

I'm a retired welfare rights worker. I've supported many a client through telephone assessments and it's never been a problem when I've answered on their behalf.

Do you have a friend or family member who could do similar for you, OP?
