Debt

can anyone tell me that debt gets easier? I feel like I’m drowning in it. I feel like my life will never be easy or simple and I’ll never get to do the things I enjoy because of it. I have no idea what to do. I can’t get out of my overdraft to even begin paying off debt and a different job is not an option. What can I possibly do to help myself here

I wrote down everything that was coming in and out of my bank account. Then cancelled/cut back anything frivolous, for example streaming subscription etc. cut things back as much as I could. Other options might be citizens advice bureau or turn to us for financial advice?? They are very helpful x are you getting all the benefits you sre entitled to? Council tax reduction if single household etc

Christians Again Poverty can help a lot, speak to who you owe money to, arrange a feasible figure to pay back over a feasible time frame and speak to firms you owe money.

Read some of the diaries on moneysavingexpert - people have come back from huge amounts of debt on there

You are amazing - for even reaching out to ask. You are so different to those who don't make it out of debt. I know you will, as you have the can do attitude.
Approach some of these agencies for help and you'll make it.
Thinking of you

I second going to the debt free wannabe forum on moneysavingexpert.com- there are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on there who will help and support you. Good luck.

You need help to come to an agreement with the companies, to hold the interest and pay a set amount each month.

Plenty of people have overcome huge debt and found financial stability. I have, but as well as getting the right advice and going through a formal debt solution its been alongside a significant increase in household income and being child free and now mortgage free. But that's taken many years.

If you're a low paid single parent who's renting and this not being expected to change in the short to medium term, it will be a lot harder but what you do need to do is get proper advice from someone who can see your whole circumstances, otherwise it's likely nothing will change or the debt could get worse.

Look at the advice on Moneysavingexpert.com or contact Stepchange or similar.

No advice just wanted to post to say I completely understand this! I’m drowning too…… I’m in pretty much the same situation. I have a decent wage, I bring in over 2k a month, but I’m in my overdraft, I end up using more credit because of the high interest charges ……. I feel rock bottom

For me it was consolidating and paying down a loan. Would it be possible for you to get a loan or streamline so you can feel like you're on top of it? I know how stressful it can be.
