Old credit card payment

Hi I have just moved to a new credit card and requested the balance of my old card is transferred to my new one. The balance of my old card now says £0 with the old balance still pending to my new card. A payment of £160 was due tomorrow on old card but I've cancelled this direct debit. Now im worrying that I cancelled the dd too soon and I should have let the payment stand. I intend to close the old account tomorrow. Any ideas anyone...did I do the right thing cancelling the dd even if the old balance states 0?

i’d use the online chat function to contact the old card company “just to confirm my balance is now zero and no payment is due today”. screenshot the confirmation as proof.

your new card will show up a balance shortly.

The new card company sent money to the old card which paid off the balance and you now owe money to the new company.

Therefore you don't need to pay the old card, your new card company did this for you. Also the balance is zero. Cancelling the DD was the right thing to do as sometimes, if you make a payment shortly before the DD is due, they still take the DD and your card is in credit, meaning you will need to either claim the money back or spend it, also you have the DD going out of your bank account, which may cause difficulty.

Don't forget to also set up a DD or SO to the new card to make sure it's paid on time and you don't lose your 0% deal.
