UC for business owners?

We run a small limited company, DH is sole director. I work full time for it at minimum wage, he does also.

We have a couple of employees and a fair few assets within it, with the associated overheads.

The business makes a small profit, but not sufficient that we would be prudent to pay ourselves more or take dividends. We can meet our obligations, but there isn't much spare and there isn't much fat to trim within it.

I assume we cannot apply for UC in this instance?

In theory yes but you'll need to disclose your company's books in the same way as self employed do.

If your business is only managing to pay you minimum wage can you do anything to improve profitability?

  • raise your prices
  • cut costs
