DMP with Step Change Anxiety

Hi everyone, I am entering into a DMP with StepChange having started the process about four weeks ago. The sheer relief I felt when I got the ball rolling with Step Change was immense and I had been feeling really positive. However, since yesterday I have had a major wobble and severe anxiety over it. I have huge debts (all unsecured) and Step Change has worked out a sensible budget and payment plan for me, but I can’t help feeling uneasy - what if the banks reject my payments? Could I lose our house? Will I be bombarded with phone calls and letters from creditors? I suppose I’m just looking for some reassurance from anyone who’s been through this, or going through it.
My debts are a result of life changes and, frankly, poor choices. I take full responsibility for them but I just couldn’t continue down the road I was on and Step Change has offered a lifeline.

I have a DMP with Christians Against Poverty. I'm 6 months in now and I did have a couple of calls and letters from creditors in the beginning but once I told them I was working with CAP they backed off and I haven't heard from them since.

@KurtCobainLover that’s good to hear. Is everything going smoothly for you?

Yes, its been great. I don't live in fear of the post man anymore or answering numbers that I don't recognise. CAP send me a monthly statement showing the balances and how much I've paid to date which makes me feel motivated to continue.

@KurtCobainLover thanks again, I’ve just spoken to my bank advising them of the DMP as they had been phoning me so I feel a bit more settled.

You have to keep the bigger picture in mind, you can be debt free in the future! Stick with the plan, stick to what you will be told to tell creditors and one day you’ll have this all behind you. I’ve worked with dozens of people over the years and legitimate lenders all accept these plans

@hahabahbag thanks for the reassurance! I’m crashing out again at the minute with a new worry - that debt collectors will come to my home while I’m on a DMP. Step Change say this could happen but it’s unusual, I think they just have to cover it. In your experience are you aware of this happening? Thanks again
