PREMIUM BONDS MAY/JUNE 2026

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2026 13:19

PB have been about since 1957
Been 30yrs (April 2024) since a million was then the highest prize

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win every purchase - years ago you could buy £1 at a time.

Odds of winning £1 million on Premium Bonds at face value with £25 bonds are

1 in 2,737,857,636 - but 2 people have to win it every month so ……

To win anything odds are 1 in 23000

So providing you have more than £100 you have better odds winning something from pb than winning the lottery 😄

And obviously far better than the lottery - you don’t lose your stake !!!!!!

https://www.saga.co.uk/money-news/premium-bonds

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if winnings take over FH /want winnings in bank account
More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to then hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!! Or in fact any prize

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 holding win a million (March 25) also a £100 holding win £100k and £50 win £25k and even £1 won £10k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /few thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two or even longer

PB odds calculator below

https://pbprizes.com/calculator/

shows the interest rate of the winnings - obv anything over 3.30% is good as if in an account you wouid be taxed so be more like 3%

In August 2023, we had the highest 4.65% But it has been steadily falling since, and of April 2026 it’s 3.3 %

The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 1/2300 can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1650 (3.3% interest on £50k)

So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

To work out your own personal % rate
Winnings divided by amount have x 100

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 4% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So anything over 3% in winnings is considered good.

People dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything so that they will def earn x amount of interest

But then lose the what if won a million or £100k

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I

Include these details in the letter:
Current name
Current address
Premium Bond holder number& date of birth

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

There are 2 apps afaik
Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - the app its self works but the showing early often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

Seems the higher the winnings the earlier it shows and can be from 6pm the night before the app shows

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

The two winners of the £1million prizes will be contacted by Agent Million (AM) 😂😂 the day before the first working day of the corresponding month.

There may however be exceptions to this, such as when the first working day of the month is a bank holiday, for example.

So
AM - Day before first working day - Millionaire knock /call

LIST - First day of working month showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

APP - Day after first working day , including weekends - cream app showing all winnings

You can also check to see if have won via this link with your holders number

www.nsandi.com/prize-checker

Hopefully I've covered everything
Good luck one and all 😄

I have been out and about today and a bird poo’d on me.

I am now convinced it is a good luck sign!

A bird pooed on my dog, does that count? <clutches at straws>

Good luck everyone!

You've given me a dilemma ~ should I spend a day on the beach in the hope a seagull will poo on me & bring me luck or should I stay at home and wait for a knock on the door . . .

I've decided I've saved hard, and I am not going to go mad with my savings, PBs and others now! But I might need some of them, or take out money if I win this month/next to treat myself or a teenage DS2 - for example a day out at a nearby season town we have visited on holiday. DS2 needs some time and help and talking time and I would like to prise him away from watching Youtube so much when not at college (he's 17).

Nationwide have announced that they're going to give me £100 through the Fairer Share. Now, I could buy Bonds or put this in an ISA, but what I'm actually going to do is put the money in a medium interest, but unlimited instant access savings which I use as a Kitty, when sons or I want or need new clothes, a treat or whatever. Next week I will be transferring £200 to a Regular savings account. I've don't want to blow savings on hotel accommodation, but I will be buying an all day ticket for the Women's Prize mini festival followed by shortlist readings in 2 weeks. That will take care of the £100, really. If I win £25 I might splurge on a book and stand in the queue for it to be signed, even a little more.

I might need also to withdraw money to spend on my DS2 (or DS1 but it's DS2 who needs most immediate help right now) - DS2 gets an allowance from grandfather, but grandfather gives DS1 money at university - very generous and DS1 is doing alright. Both get presents from family, as do adults.

I will buy another £26 in Bonds tomorrow - minimum plus £1 (so little extra to add I won't notice).

Good luck everyone. Look forward to people coming back to say they've won something next week.

Hi @elkiedee interesting to hear your savings plans. I also got the Fairer Share £100 and was wondering what bonds you were thinking of buying as I thought for PBs you had to buy £25 min or is that just initially? If not PBs, are you buying govt bonds and how do you do that? I hear they’re also tax free which sounds good to me but not sure how to get involved!

Can’t figure out how to edit my post but good luck to all the PBers for the June draw 🤞🤞🤞

ForgotMyLoginAgain · Yesterday 10:46

So if you're lucky enough for AM to visit you, they call first right? Which theoretically should happen in the morning so they then can get to you that day.

So basically if you've not recieved a phone call by now then you can assume you're not a millionaire right now? 🤣

PremiumBondJovi · Yesterday 10:48

Happy AM Day everyone and the very best of luck as we all climb aboard this month's PB rollercoaster ride! As we polish our doorknockers and doorbells, here is this month's serenade to AM. I think I've spotted some PBers as the backing singers - which one are you? Feel free to join in!

PennyPorchetta · Yesterday 10:51

Best of very good luck everyone 🍀. I’m off for a game of ⛳️ so AM will need to come back later on if that isn’t too inconvenient.

One or two posters have suggested that AM does telephone or email first but I've never seen any definitive proof of that myself. My understanding is that AM just turns up sometime in the afternoon or early evening. If no one is home then AM will call back, perhaps a couple of times that day and the next. If there is still no one home then a letter will be left asking the PBer to make contact. The only time I've read about a phone call is when a family member was at home when AM visited, and so the winner was called at work and told to come home.

So, the Irrational Hope and Irrational Excitement is still alive PBers!

AllRevvedUpWithNoPlaceToGo · Yesterday 11:09

Happy AW day everyone 😀

PremiumBondJovi · Yesterday 11:24

On the bird poo front, our car and garden furniture is obviously very lucky indeed then, but not us! I've threatened the birds that if they ever poo on our washing I'll stop feeding them, so perhaps that's it!

Last call today for anyone intending to buy PBs (minimum £25) to be eligible for the July draw.

Muchtoomuchtodo · Yesterday 12:24

I’m meeting our financial adviser mid July so I’ve got 2 draws left to win big! He’s not a fan of PBs and despite me only having a couple of grand in bonds, I’m desperate to prove him wrong!!!

@PBonToast

Do you mean your wanting to start investing ?
If so look at what funds are and EFTS.

You can buy baskets of companies and bonds vanguard is very good for this .
Ie you buy so many the risk is massively spread thin.

Bonds are for everyone but really very elderly people who want to stabilizer their money.
Younger people under 70 ISH should buy shares in companies.
There are many platforms / AJ bell and Hargreaves and landsowe and interactive investor. .I use hargreves but Havant checked others fees .
You could starr off your investment journey with your 100 ?!!
Buy half socks and shares etf and half bonds !

Thanks for taking the time to advise @MaybeThisTimeILlbeLucky 🙏 I was thinking specifically how to get into govt bond investing and was wondering if that was the type of bonds that elkiedee was meaning and was surprised that you could buy for £1+ Tbf I’m not maxed out on ISAs so you’re right I should really look at those first. I’m quite a bit under 70 so def time to ride out the markets but I do have low tolerance for downside risk and do love PBs- dilemmas!

The million pound winners could live anywhere in the world. That’s why, in my opinion, the line that the two big winners only find out they’ve won the day before the HVP list is out and that they’re notified in person by AM is PR baloney. NS&I won’t be spending thousands of pounds flying out AM’s to, say, Auckland or Dallas, if the winners aren’t at home and then staying there and trying again at various points. Even within some parts of the UK it would be logistically challenging.

You have to buy minimum £25 and prizes will all be divisible by £25. But you can buy £26 or £27, you just can't buy less than £25. And also, no pence. You can't put in £15.73 or whatever.

Thanks, the email notification of your reply reminds me... need to buy my £26 worth, before I forget again.

Yay, another £27 waiting for Premium Bonds.

For those now in Nationwide, and looking to extract value from their savings, they have kind of repeated an offer from last year, as part of giving back a "Fairer Share" for a fixed rate, fixed term savings bond, this time at 5%. But at this time I don't want to lock money away for anything less accessible than 2 penalty free withdrawals a year.

I am pleased that I have helped DP (who is not great with money) to also get £100, and DS1, living away from home at university, will also get the money into his student account, and June is a great time for that - a bit of cash towards celebrating the end of exams, or towards a holiday with his first girlfriend or his mates (lucky young man!)

I am oversharing maybe, not with the intention of showing off, but suggesting that saving is not just about the headline rate, its about the financial ability to be able to make decisions about spending when you need to, or sharing with family too. My kids have done well out of having extra grandparents and aunts etc. And after A levels one of my cousins asked if I could give him DS1's email so they could work out how to send him a financial present. I had that from my family too, and it often came when much needed so I hardly got overdrawn when I was at my most skint.

We can give each other tips, but most if not all of us are not financial advisers, and no IFA should be hanging out here, or touting their business for a private chat either. Your savings strategy should work for you.

I see you've already had a sensible sounding response here, but as you asked me, I will answer.

In previous years I think I've added money to a Regular Saver because I was not sure I'd be able to do £200 every month - that's more than £100 obviously it's still useful to be able to reorganise savings. Early this year, I don't know jhow I've accumulated this money in an account, I don't need it all on instant access. So I have spent some and moved some, I am back to paying off cards out of my instant access, I say "the kitty" for ease of reference. We could take ds1's first girlfriend out for a meal locally "on the kitty". So much better than spending recklessly and then having to do with no fun for months.

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · Yesterday 18:31

I haven’t heard anything re nationwide £100. Don’t we get it automatically for banking with them? I only use it as a bill account nowadays with spending and saving elsewhere. Have I missed out?
