Savers - where are you putting this year’s ISA allowance, cash or S&S?

Those of us who planning to deposit £20k in the new ISA year, any good tips about where you are putting it?

I have multiple years’ allowances in cash ISAs, but considering S&S this time. I’m wary that the Iran situation increases volatility and risk. My husband’s going to put his in cash, but I am pretty clueless.

S&S. I don't plan to use the money for at least 5 years, probably more than 10 so it will almost certainly be better off there than cash.
It will be a mixed global fund. If lucky, the war will end soon and I'll get a quick boost. Maybe not but I hopefully can wait the downs out happily.

I’m thinking the same, re not using for at least 5 years.

Mine will be going into a global all cap fund.

KStockHERO · 26/03/2026 15:35

Mine will all go into S&S ISAs.
£16K will go into Vanguard retirement trackers which have goal dates of 2035 and 2040.
£4K will go into my MoneyBox LISA.

I have about £150K in the Vanguard ISAs already and don't plan to touch them for at least ten years so that'll be a very nice chunk of compounded interest by then.
God knows what'll happen with the LISA 😂By current rules, I can't access it for 20 years anyway.

What is your savings goal?

I am similarly utilising my ISA allowance (and I suspect the same age as you) - but not actually clear what I’m doing it for and when to stop.

Had assumed I’d buy a bigger house but with stamp duty plus new additions council tax I’m not sure I can be bothered any more.

I just got a trading 212 cash ISA and I'm getting 4.68 percent interest for 12 months. You won't get that much interest going direct, you need to go through MSE site to get it. I'm happy with that rate.

I didn’t know this! I have the Trading 212 cash ISAs and get 4.31%.

I'm 44 so it's S&S 100% - Mostly Global Tracker funds via Vanguard
Goal is keep saving to try and semi retire pre 60
Don't have a lump sum to deposit just a regular monthly payment
Have approx £15k in Cash ISA for emergency funds

climbintheback · 26/03/2026 16:28

Gold - under the bed.

Greentoytractor · 26/03/2026 16:33

Stocks and shares ISA on trading212. Invested in an all world tracker. I'm 38 and have some cash savings too. I'm pretty risk adverse but do feel like I've missed a trick my not investing years ago.

DeedlessIndeed · 26/03/2026 20:13

For those going down the S&S route, does the rise in VC funding sucking so much growth out of the stock market worry you? I am really risk adverse, so we have a lot in cash and not much in S&S.

Gah I will be worried if I do and worried if I don't go for S&S this year.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 26/03/2026 20:27

Always s&s as I use my isa for money I don’t expect to need in short term

What? My Trading 212 cash ISA interest rate iwent down to 3.60% a few months ago.

(I also have an S&S ISA with them, which is quite the rollercoaster. I should stop peeking at it.)

happysunr1se · 26/03/2026 20:33

I've just opened a Moneyfarm s&s ISA and will transfer my existing cash ISA into this.

I've also just opened a Dodl s&s LISA to transfer in my Skipton Lisa because my DH who opened his Skipton Lisa at the same time as me transferred last year to Dodl and his Lisa is 7k up on mine in one year, so I want a slice of that too!

Wingingitbestican · 27/03/2026 00:38

I am putting the whole 20k in a cash isa as it’s the last year I can do that. Next year I’ll take the plunge and start investing.

I'm saving for an early retirement. I'm aiming for £500K in 10 years time in S&S ISAs - assuming £20k per year investment and conservatively assuming 5% interest.

I plan to fund early retirement through 3% yearly draw down.

It doesn't worry me, no. I think the impact is fairly minimal for "everyday" savers with "everday" amounts of ££.

It might mean a slight adjustment of expectation or looking for other high-risk/high-reward options like SEIS.

I'm biased though because DH's companies have been bankrolled by VC ££. So I'm personally benefiting in one way from the increase in VC funding and companies waiting longer to go public.

Bromptotoo · 27/03/2026 09:11

Stocks and Shares. It's not money we need anytime soon and over time S&S should be a better return.
