Child maintenance help supposed state benefits

Advice please. So my ex partner has a job, however CSA has told me today that apparently he gets state benefits and is now to pay me nil! And because it’s state benefits they cannot access his tax account and wages until that has changed on state benefits system. Is there anyway I can speed this up or sort this as I know he works, company vehicles etc.
they said I have to report him for benefit fraud as they can’t do anything? Surely this isn’t right?

That does't sound right. Are you sure he's got a job, because they would be able to see that from their end if he has.

Igiveup2027 · 18/03/2026 16:34

Yes. I have messages from him saying he has a job! He also has a company van he drives to drop our kid bacOnto me, messaged me this weeekend to drop him home early so he could go on a work course. They are saying they cannot pulL up the information because he is registered as being on state benefits that entitles him to pay nothing

I don't think anyone is entitled to pay nothing. Even if you are on benefits you have to pay a small amount so the whole thing sounds wrong.

Raise it with someone higher up.

This happens with my ex, a lot. He never has to pay anything in his periods of unemployment, which seem to be quite frequent, even though he is on universal credit.

Has he reported he's now working? If so, if he did it before his first pay, CMS may have closed the case as no further action as couldn't see his monthly pay on their system yet. This happened with me. Keep evidence of dates that you are aware of. I challenged in the January when I'd had months of no pay even though I knew he was working and they eventually up dated the system and back dated to when he should have been paying me and added the amount to his ever growing arrears.

Good Luck

I thought cms will say the £7 a week if on benefits or £27.50 a month

Igiveup2027 · 23/03/2026 07:48

@Blondeshavemorefun apparently as he has him 2 nights every 14 days it makes him exempt.

@Howmuchdotheywant he reckons he has uploaded his contract etc to them but they said on the phone to me until they heard direct from state benefits then they can’t do anything so kinda unsure.

Reduction doesn’t count when on uc and pays basic rate so £7 a week or £30.30 a month making the grand total of £364 a year

arent we lucky a £1 a day 🙄😡

if working then would be 1/7th less of the 12% gross amount
