Probate-help!

Am FINALLY getting to the end of probate. Has been v long and convoluted even though everything goes to me as mum was divorced and I was an only child. Have had to pay out a great deal getting fencing/decorating done in the house, paying mum's mortgage, paying fees to the building soc, paying fees to the conveyancing sol, paying fees to the rental co etc (i should be renting the house out soon) so have maxed out my overdraft. They have all the money in the client account now and said they will pay the funeral director etc and then I can have a little bit of the money if I need it (there should be about £10k after paying all expenses). Would I be allowed to ask for £2k? They won't pick up the phone!

Hi my dad has just finished probate on my nan's estate (it was probably maximum £15k in total before the bills were paid) and the solicitors did release a lump sum before settling which I think was a few grand. It took him two months to finally get it out of them though!!! Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear Keep on at them! After all it is your money - minus their fees of course! Good luck

We've just finished all this business too, but the small bit of mortgage outstanding was frozen by the building society from the date of death. The executor of the will was DH's cousin, so he forwarded money to us whenever we needed. He also paid any of those bills re: funeral too. Don't see why similar shouldn't happen for you?

Yes, send them receipts and a spreadsheet showing what you've "lent" the estate and ask for repayment.

Mention in your covering letter that you've tried phoning and set a deadline if you feel you need to
