Travel insurance query

I’ve had joint annual multi-trip mtravel insurance with my husband via our bank account for many years. Because he has a life-limiting illness, he has to provide the company with an annual update, and we’ve always paid an additional premium.

This time, they refused to cover us because of his health condition.

If I now look for insurance just for me, do I have to declare this when I’m asked if I’ve ever been turned down/refused insurance?

I know I could ask that question of each provider, but then they’ll know, and I’d rather they did not if it isn’t required.

Anyone been through this, or work(ed) in insurance, and have any knowledge, please?

I think you can reasonably say you've not been refused based on your own conditions.

However, might his conditions affect your premium in respect of, for example, need to return to UK?

I used to work in travel insurance I would declare his condition to the insurance if it would ever be a reason for you to cancel your holiday. You wouldn’t be covered

I work in the insurance industry and to err on the side of caution, I would declare this. However it’s more than a yes/no when you answer these questions. The insurer will ask for the circumstances and an underwriter will very likely clear this as not material to your own application in the context of this particular question. Better being over thorough than this coming up in the event of a claim. Even if it doesn’t impede on the eventual outcome, it could slow down the claims process at an already stressful time.
Be cautious with cancellation / emergency expenses linked to your DH illness as these will be pre existing and likely not covered even if the policy only covers your own travel. Again, full declaration at application will clear this up.

(This is not a personal recommendation or tailored advice).

Thank you all, that’s very helpful. It’s always great to get a consensus.
