Is this correct with UC

I get some help from uc towards childcare and rent while working full time. I recently changed job and my new employer pays on the 25th of each month whereas my previous employer paid on 31st. My salary is the same so I'm not any better off than I was but I do have more job security in the new role thankfully.

Uc are saying that I'm not entitled to any financial support for the month after the month I changed job because I've had two earnings in the same payment window. I've provided my payslips and explained the dates etc but they've still said no. Is this correct? It seems very unfair if so as my income is the same so i still have the same amount of money to work with? I rely on this money to pay my nursery bills.

Yes that's how UC normally works.

Employer runs payroll and reports pay to HMRC via Real Time Information (RTI). HMRC pass the net pay figure to UC. If you get 2 payments reported in one Assessment Period then they're combined for UC and you get paid a (a lot) less. People paid 4 weekly see this in one AP every year.

If the double payment is due to getting money early when banking days shift around weekends/Bank Holidays and the due date is actually later then UC can untangle it. But people had to go to court and appeal to get that concession.

I think you're probably stuck this time. It's not so much the two payments that cause trouble; it'd be argued you just need to budget for the extra time. What stings is the fact you get only one Work Allowance so more cash is lost to the 55p taper.

Might be worth running it past CA or another advice outfit but I think it's unjust but the rules have been applied correctly.

Ok thanks, I had this issue at Christmas with an early payment date and it was resolved easily with a payslip so I thought it was strange that it wasn't resolvable this time round but if its correct then it's correct. Just seems very unfair.

Yes this is correct. As you highlighted, the Christmas one is usually resolved with the date on the payslip, but this where your pay has fallen twice in the same assessment period is what it is unfortunately, if the payslip dates fall that way
