For awhile now I’m getting targeted with fraulent transactions. Haven’t had an issue for awhile when I have thankfully banks/credit card companies have been brilliant.

However today it was taken to another level. I was out with my family and in a museum when I kept getting calls from a with held number. At the same time was getting texts to confirm I was spending a lot of money and kept getting codes. I did answer one of the calls as it was happening a few times. A man was on the other end saying he was from my credit card. He confirmed he was from fraud department and wanted to check I was making a big purchase. I said no so he said he would stop it and reissue my card. He kept asking me for the code I was getting for the large purchase. I refused as the message stated not to give it. However he convinced me he was from the fraud team. I gave out the code. He spoke like other times I have spoken to fraud teams.

After the call I wasn’t sure what had happened. I contacted my credit card company via chat function - they didn’t convince me whether what I had experienced was true. They stopped my card and asked me to call fraud team.

when I returned home I immediately called the fraud team. No transactions had happened which were the same as the message. However no one from the fraud team had called me.

This bloke was convincing and has angered me in giving the code. I would never give any information out. Thankfully didn’t give him any further details.

this last year I have been targeted about 6 times through both my bank and credit companies. Getting fed up with this. All payments mention Uber but I don’t use this company.

Ive been told now I have been targeted it’s likely to happen again. Is there anything I can do to help prevent it? No idea how it’s happening!!!

Cancel all your cards and start again. Get a new phone number and email.

Honestly, it will be a pain in the arse but it will be worth it. Unfortunately it’s true that you will now be known as someone who might be vulnerable to scams, and they will come after you again.

Have a look at how to be less vulnerable too. My work uses training called CyberGriffin which is run by City of London police and is really good.

Move banks, stop giving out information on the phone!

They have your card details, but they can't get the payments through due to stronger authentication so they are calling you pretending to be the fraud department of the bank to trick you into giving OTPS or confirming payments in your app on the basis that you are keeping your account safe. Your card details are compromised so it needs to be cancelled asap and reissued.

The point is they are trying to make card payments which is why you are getting notifications. They use this to convince you your account is at risk. They are the ones doing the payment attempts

I'm surprised the payment didn't go through seeing as you gave the code out, but if didn't you were lucky. Never ever give out codes over the phone. Your bank will never ask for this.
