Rather sensitive problem

Hello,

I have a problem that has a troubling context, but I just need some practical advice.

My son lives with me. He is a lovely, caring and very vulnerably young man. However, he has an eating disorder that means he spends a lot of money on food.

He is receiving help and I am sure he will come through this difficult time. However, once or twice, he has borrowed my bank card and copied it onto Google pay on his phone. This has played havoc with my budgeting and I have had to cancel my card and get a new one. Unfortunately, the card copying has occurred again, and I am about to cancel my card.

I do not need advice re my son's behaviour, I know what it is, but I would like to know if there is any way I can prevent my card from being used for Google Pay. It seems like the only practical measure that I can take when this occurs is to cancel and change my bank card.

Thanks

I bank with Chase and my debit card don’t have the card details on them, I need to use the app to get them.

Could you ask your bank if they have cards with just the chip and limited details? I expect lots of banks are moving in this direction to increase security

Just keep your card on you at all times.

Change your card, when you get the new one commit the 3 digits on the back to memory (or save them in your phone) and damage the digits on the card itself so they're unreadable. Can't be added to Google wallet or used online then.

Someone mentioned freezing the card. On my banking app I can easily toggle it on and off, so you could always leave it frozen.

Could you hide your card under your phone cover, I'm guessing, like most people you carry your phone on you at all times. Never let him use it.

Hide the card and start using cash more. He can't do much with that. Probably doesn't know how it works. Start strategizing before you end up penniless.

have you called your bank and asked if they can block the card from being added to digital wallets? They probably can do it. Way easier than all the other tips and tricks here.
