Which joint bank account?

bf and I are going to open a joint bank account to pay for things for our baby which is due soon. I have never had a joint account before. Does anyone have any recommendations for one please?

Go on Money Saving Expert. It depends how much money you will be putting in there as some will give you good offers if you put in over a certain amount. Some give cash back, some give vouchers. If bills are coming out then look for one with cash back on utilities. Decide if you want to pay for the account (you might get travel insurance or offers like free Disney +). Basically decide what’s important to you and go from there, the Money Saving Expert site has a wealth of information.

That’s not true, we have a joint account that neither of us have an individual account with. There is a huge benefit to shopping around as banks offer different deals. We got £400 just for opening ours!

That was a couple of years ago, but Lloyds are offering £250 at the moment for joint, so thinking of switching to that one. Barclays were giving £400, but that wasn’t for a joint account, but both of us swapped our individual accounts so that was £800 all together. It’s really worth looking around. We’ve saved so much in utilities cash back, free streaming channels, free cinema tickets, etc.

Joint accounts are not standard at Lloyd's unless you are existing customers. We tried to switch to them recently, couldn't do it online so I phoned them. I'd have to open an account, husband would need to open an account and after a qualifying period we could apply to have them become a joint account. And the switching reward wouldn't apply...So you definitely do need to see which banks are offering joint accounts.
