I know this sounds a crazy question, but I’m interested in taking on a high interest short term loan, but I’m not sure whether they actually exist?

Does anyone know of one that actually pays out?

Why would you want to do such a thing?

Couldn't you use Klarna or similar to spread the cost for free if you can't use mainstream credit like credit cards or an overdraft?

Just don’t.

I don’t have a good enough credit rating tbh.

It’s good that those came to an end. Have you tried your local councils Cost of Living fund?

Go to Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert website, you’ll get lots of good advice for your situation there.

What do you need the loan for, OP? Perhaps someone might be able to suggest a better alternative.

Not judging at all, but high interest payday loans are very rarely a good idea. And debt can be extremely stressful for people.

Our council doesn’t have one.

Maybe the Household support fund or crisis payment (jobcentre ) depending on your circumstances.
Or new scheme, crisis and resilience fund payment.

Or try a Credit Union for a loan.
Which area/ council are you in?

Bobiverse · 22/01/2026 19:52

Those are mostly done with now, thank God. They were such a scam and preyed on the most financially vulnerable.

If your credit rating isn’t good enough to get a proper loan or overdraft then you shouldn’t have any money loaned to you.

What’s your situation, why do you need the money and who have you already tried? Legitimate places like your bank or even family?

Sounds like you're in a really difficult position OP but I'd be really worried that a loan like that would only make things even worse. I hope you work something out.
