Just after some advice please I currently have some savings, if I was to die would my money automatically go to my children or do I need to write a will?

Need a bit more info to advise. Which country do you live in, England, Wales, Scotland, NI, other? Are you married? Do you have any other dependants? How much savings are we talking about and do you have other assets (a house)? Are the children minors or adults?

This link has good advice Citizens Advice

Who can inherit if there's no will

But in general I would say it is nearly always good advice to make a will even if you would want the intestacy provisions to apply, it just makes sure your wishes are followed, makes it easier for your family/children administratively and particularly if your children are under 18 you will want to make some provision for who looks after the money for them (and potentially who they live with etc) until they are old enough to have control of it.

To add, it doesn't have to cost a lot to make a (simple) will. Some charities will do it for free in exchange for a small donation to the charity, or solicitors sometimes have offers particularly if you are on a low income.
