Getting money back from Chinese company?

ColdSnowCat · 06/01/2026 12:00

I ordered a football shirt for DC online in Dec. The pictures looked like the official shirt, the description said stitched logos etc, and the website had an address in Manchester.
But it took almost 3 weeks to arrive, and clearly is bad fake shirt. The sponsor logo is the wrong font and the team logo is tiny and printed not stitched.
When I emailed to complain the replies all had Chinese characters in the to and from fields, so clearly a Chinese company.

They are refusing a refund and only offering 10% off.

It was only £40 so under the £100 protection limit for the credit card. Has anyone had any luck using the credit card chargeback option for a foreign seller?

I'm annoyed at the principle of them lying about the quality of the products, but have I got any chance of getting my money back? Or should I just move on?

Thanks

Yep did a chargeback 20 years ago for a fake North Face jacket, took ages to arrive then stank of chemicals and was clearly fake.
Claiming through PayPal was a dead end, but the credit card company got all the evidence from me and got the money back no issues.
The best thing was I then resold the coat as a generic unbranded coat and got about 20 quid on top for my trouble!

Selling a fake coat for £20 is the biggest scam the other person probably thought they were getting a deal unless you were completely honest. I was scammed in that way I thought I was getting a deal and bought something fake as it was listed as generic and I couldn’t get a refund. Honestly you’re just as bad

just keep persevering, and also try the card chargeback as well. I bought a desk and it was £5 delivery. After I ordered it said it would take 3 months to be shipped.

When it arrived, we put it together and it was wonky and flimsy and could not be used as a desk. I asked for my money back and they said I needed to pay £60 to ship it to China. I refused and kept arguing with them. They started offering a discount for me to keep the item, starting at 10% and going up to 50%.

I kept arguing and told them I was going to do a chargeback, and eventually got my money back from them.

Try raising a dispute with your bank. I bought some clothes from a company that turned out to be a Chinese scam company. They offered me a 20% refund.
I raised a dispute with my bank and I got the money back pretty quickly.

No idea what you mean, how could it be a scam to sell an unbranded generic coat? The only fake part was that I bought a branded breathable waterproof coat for 100 pounds and got one that wasn't the brand and likely wasn't waterproof breathable. The coat itself was an actual coat as per my sale.
Maybe I should have unpicked the stitching of the logo before posting it out as it wasn't visible in the photos but they didn't complain

It might be worth contacting the credit card company anyway. On two occasions I have complained to my credit card (Amex) about items under £100 and I was refunded both times.

Do add a review on trust pilot to warn others

Totally agree with this! I always check reviews first b4 ordering off fb or Instagram as so many Chinese companies have rubbish return/refund policies - forewarned and all that.

Exactly. I ordered something from Oxford London and cancelled within the hour after reading the terrible reviews. I got my money back. And then left a review too

I'm dealing with similar! Totally fake shop based in Pakistan but looks legit, I was sure I was buying from the UK. I'm going through the bank (Nationwide) to try and get my money back but it's taking hours of my time!!! Nationwide don't even have a means that you can either telephone them or update a case.

Very naughty as I was sure it was legit but I was basically scammed!
