A question about credit card security departments

Is it normal for the security department of a credit card company to close? Shouldn't they operate around the clock?

I have a card with Morgan Stanley, now owned (or operated) by Goldfish. I travel to Amsterdam with DS regularly because DH is working there and every time I book a flight with VLM my credit card company blocks the transaction and I have to talk to the security dept, which closes at 8.30pm.

I don't mind that my card gets blocked a lot, although it is a bit of a pain, because the flip side of that is they are very good at catching dodgey transactions, however I do think I should be able to sort out the block at the time of the transaction. What if I were trying to check into a hotel late at night and my card was stopped, or if I had to book a last minute flight because of a family emergency (all my and dh's family are abroad)?

The more I think about it the more nervous it makes me because this is my only sterling cc (I used to have more but got rid of them), and I'm wondering if I should change cc provider just in case. The thing is it's easy to get info about interest rates and charges, but up until now I've never thought about back office services and it's not easy to find out that sort of info.
