Has anyone claimed back their unfair bank charges from their bank (esp if it's Natwest)?

I'm about to send a letter to my bank - should I address it to the branch or Head Office?

I'm planning to do this - I'm addressing mine to the Head Office.

Did you use the template on moneysavingexpert.com? They've got all the info there.

ConnorTraceptive · 10/06/2008 13:14

I did but I went into the branch in person (Was Natwest) Went into a smaller branch as they tend to be more friendly

MrsThierryHenry · 10/06/2008 13:15

Good idea to go into branch, I think I'll do that as well. I did go to moneysavinexpert - thank God there's someone out there who makes our lives easier!

We did this a few months back (Barclays), but they sent a letter saying as the court case was still ongoing they wouldn't do anything. Has everything been resolved once and for all now, as there was some confusion about the verdict wasn't there?

MrsThierryHenry · 10/06/2008 13:18

Yes - look at the moneysavingexpert website. It was resolved in April, though as you'd expect the banks and financial authorities are still dragging their feet. Still, it's deemed better to get your application in early so that you don't miss the boat in case any future rulings are not in our favour. I believe everything you need is on said money website.

I reclaimed mine over a year ago so I was not affected by the hold in payments. I took the letter into my local branch and I made them sign to say it had been recieved and they gave me a copy. The banks lost the first court case and have been given leave to appeal. The repayments are still on hold at the moment unless the account holder is in severe financial difficulties. The citizens advice can give you more info if you need this.

Good luck! I'm with twa*west too, they charged me £38 for going £1.20 over my limit. Bastards

harleyd · 10/06/2008 13:25

there is another hearing 7-9th july, after which the banks can take it to house of lords and then europe if they decide to keep appealing, i wouldnt hold your breath waiting for them to pay up..i claimed over a year ago too.

wessexgirl · 10/06/2008 13:27

Yes, I think the ruling in April was preliminary, to say that the 'real' case could now go ahead. It's all still very much at the individual bank's discretion whether they repay .

ConnorTraceptive · 10/06/2008 13:31

We've got 6 accounts with them (including the children's savind accounts and trust funds)and i said I'd close them all there and then. I meant it too.

hifi · 10/06/2008 13:42

i recieved £2800 just before they brought the court case, have another one pendidng from last year. just starting on credit cards now. i am with prat west.

blushingm · 18/06/2008 22:14

I'm with twatwest too - sent my letters over a year ago. I had a letter earlier this week to say still being held pending results/findings in july......buggers - 56p over limit so charged me £38 which also took me over so another £38 - all for 56 bloody pence

ravenAK · 18/06/2008 22:16

We got £900 back from Lloyds a couple of years ago.

Consumer Action Group are very good - template letters etc.
