£70 Refund from Amazon Prime

Checked my bank account this morning and there is a £70 refund from Amazon Prime.
Has anyone else received this?
I know there was a court case a while ago but I thought it was only USA customers getting a refund.
I'm not arguing though. It's very welcome 2 weeks before Christmas.

Refund for what?

Have you signec up to Prime on a free trial, you paid, then cancelled so they’ve refunded you.

It sounds like you signed up and cancelled so they've refunded you the cost of the membership.

For the settlement you mentioned I don't think the amounts for compensation were that high?

I cancelled prime (well didn't renew when I got a new bank card) about a year ago.
As far as I am aware prime is more than £70 these days.
I have no idea why I received the refund but am happy to accept it. There are no messages on my Amazon account either.

Prime video and deliver combined is more but prime video alone is approximately £70 a year.

It sounds like because you didn't cancel they took the money from your account which has now been refunded.

It could be a refund of Prime, minus the savings you’ve had on orders. I had this once, they actually calculated the refund based on what delivery costs I saved, then deducted this from total. The amount is odd though.

If you have ever used your new card to buy anything on Amazon, could they have used its details when it came to your Prime renewal, given that you didn't cancel?

I ask as I am very aware that the sneaky fuckers will do anything they can to trick you into renewing Prime when you don't think that you have done so. They are SO aggressive in that respect.

Perhaps, if they have done this, some ruling somewhere has forced them to row back and give you a refund of some sort.

I did have prime but didn't renew, the best thing I ever did - I spend so much less now I have to pay shipping.
I have checked my bank account and the last Amazon transaction on that account was £95 in December 2023. This would have been my last prime payment as it ended about this time last year.
I always use my credit card for purchases on Amazon so I know it's not a refund for something I bought.
I'm not complaining about receiving £70. They probably double charged me for Prime years ago and have just noticed. It's just odd.
