What does a minus figure (-£100) mean for my Credit Balance on my paperless bill?

This is for British Gas

I assumed Credit Blanance
positive figure = They owe me money
negative figure = I owe them

But they have reduced my payments

This makes no sense

Help??

No if it says -£100 it means they owe you money!

LuckySalem · 09/06/2008 21:07

I mean like......

DDM £100
Usage £50
Total due -£50

HTH

SparklyGothKat · 09/06/2008 21:08

I think they owe you...

KatyMac · 09/06/2008 21:08

But if a credit balance that doesn't make mathematically sense does it?

My CC shows negative numbers if I over pay (or there is a refund) surely?

but credit card company does it from the reverse point of view because it is credit IYSWIM

I've just had a bill from scottish power and that's how they explain it. If your bill says minus something as a total then it means they owe you.

You have paid more money in your monthly payments than you have used, they owe you money.

I have an egg card, I owed 20 so showed +20, I paid them 20 (so on stmt as -20) but they took 5 dd, so I paid 25 for 20, so my balance is -5 because they owe me if that makes an ounce of sense!

LuckySalem · 09/06/2008 21:21

Katy - It means that you have a standard DDM of say £20 but this month for some reason (maybe you went on hols or maybe cos the weather is so warm) you haven't used £20 worth of gas. Therfore what ever wasn't used is owed back to you.

Oh and I agree with Dior - get your money back, don't let them get the interest and speak to them about lowering your DD amount.

KatyMac · 09/06/2008 21:23

In that case I'm having it back & going on hooliday with it

It is loads

Then I will carry on over paying and go on holiday again next year
