Goods never recieved, PayPal refunded and now company are requesting money

At the start of September I made a purchase, after several weeks I never recieved any reply or update on what was happening. After a month of no replies, I opened a dispute with PayPal and they refunded me instantly.

Well, I've just recieved an invoice from the company to say that I recieved the items and they have proof of this (I haven't recieved anything) and that they want their money. 2 whole months after ignoring my emails and messages. Where do I stand? If I ignore it will I get into trouble? I've never had this happen before

Apparently marked as delivered. I've asked for the tracking number but I've had no reply. If it has been delivered, it certainly wasn't to my address!

Just ignore them. If they want to take it further, they will need to prove delivery. And if it wasn't delivered to you, then they need to suck it up or raise it with the courier company.

Another vote for ignore and if they contact you again, ask for the proof.

Refer them back to PayPal. They must have an account with them for you to pay using the service, so this will be a chargeback. Nothing to do with you - they need to present whatever ‘evidence’ of delivery they have to PayPal. This is the whole point of the protection they provide.

I'm a retailer. I would take you to small claims if I had evidence of delivery and you unfairly won a chargeback. I have done this twice with standard credit card chargebacks and been awarded the money on both occasions. Once with signature + GPS, once with delivery photo + GPS. Action Fraud informed etc.

However, I also would have replied to all your messages, dispatched within 24 hours and would have sent you tracking info on dispatch.

Also, as a seller, PayPal have never once refunded a customer of my business, let alone instantly. The few refund attempts that have been made I have countered with evidence, and they've then been thrown out. If PayPal genuinely refunded you instantly - without giving the seller a right to reply - it's unusual and perhaps evidence that the retailer has bigger issues.

I personally wouldn't ignore. I would reply stating you have not received this item, have had no reponse to many enquiries (which you can evidence) and have never been provided with any tracking info. Retailers don't write to you when they are chancing their arm IMO. I suspect they strongly believe you are defrauding them.
