I have a full time job and was promoted last summer. On email to the whole of my company without any consultation to me, my job was re-advertised on Friday and it talks about how they are trying to find a replacement for the person that I took over from with no mention to the fact I have been doing the job for the last year.

A few of my staff have emailed me over the weekend with surprise and I will have to go in to face them tomorrow and discuss what the issue is with the job being re-advertised.

What would you do from here

Slalomsuki do you mean they are advertising the job you are already in now? No possibility they are wanting a similar post as well, or anything?

I think basically you need to ask your boss what's going on, before you speak to anyone working for you. If that's not possible, then speak to people working for you and say you haven't been informed about this vacancy, you understand they are concerned, and it's always a bit disruptive and worrying when something happens and you're not sure what it means, but you are going to speak to [name of boss] and find out as soon as possible how it may or may not affect this team, and will let them know as soon as you can.

I can't really give you any further advice about your own position at the moment until you've spoken to whoever and found out what's going on. At the moment it could just as easily be a mistake by someone, or nothing for you to worry about, and it if is something for you to worry about, what your boss says might affect how you deal with it anyway.

I would say speak to your boss or whoever the right person is, and get the official line on this, then perhaps come back here and let us know. Obviously whatever the official line is, this is not good management at all, this is clearly something you should have been aware of. But how bad it is depends on what they say.

I am assuming when you say you were promoted last summer, that is was on a permanent basis, not a temporary thing, or acting-up or anything like that?
