Hi,

I have received a letter from HMRC saying that they believe I owe a charge for claiming CB when I earn over the threshold. I know I earn close but just checked right back to 2020 and I have never earned over £50k in those years it applied or £60k since it changed.

Do I ignore or still call them? Bit worried!

Why ignore it if you know it’s incorrect. You can just sort it and then forget about it.

If you are sure you have declared all your earnings and it's definitely below the threshold then it's fine. Might as well call them if they make it easy to let them know.

I am salary paid no other income and logged in to double check my p60’s. Highest earner in the home so not worried about partners income. I’ll call them but seems odd to get a letter like this when I was of the opinion HMRC knows what I earn each year before me!

The income included bank interest and dividends, in case you receive either of them.
