How to afford having a baby!

Hi, we are about to begin trying for a baby but i am a little anxious about whether we can afford it. Can anyone give me an idea of what and how much we would be entitled to?

DH earns around £14,000 per year. I earn around £13,200 in my part time employment and i also run a business but at the current time that isnt technically making any money yet. So how do i work out what i would be entitled to??

Thanks

MissingMyHeels, that is quite useful. Just had a look to make sure we getting correct payments.

fairywing, all I'd say is there is never a perfect time to start a family, and if you're trying, just enjoy it. Try not to worry too much about money coz you'll always get by. It's suprising how you do, but you just do.

I would also add that if you're going to be managing on maternity pay, that you try to start living on that amount right now, and cut back before you're even pregnant. It's a good way to suss out how your finances will feel (although you should be entitled to a fair amount of CB and CTC) but also it will give you a pot of savings to draw on if you have unexpected expenses during the "lean" times.

ok it works out at £656 per month i think, approx £117 p/week stat mat pay, £18 p/week child benefit and £850 p/year child tax credit. Does that sound about right?? Cos that is way better than i expected!!
