Is it actually cheaper to have a water meter?

I know its not the most thrilling thread but needs must.
We're trying to reduce some of our monthly bills and water is something we've always just accepted as the way it is. We live in a 3 bed semi and pay £55 a month, is this average or does it depend on the area? We're NE.
I'm debating getting a water meter installed but I've read so many mixed stories. Some say it reduced their bill, others say it massively went up!
Anyone have any experience of switching? Was it worth it?

I get the washing machine being used lots with sen children

but not why dw is 2/3 times a day

once a day seems normal for a family at end of day

now I’m a single parent it may go on 4/5 times a week rather then 7

so why is yours 14-21 a week @dontcomeatme

@Blondeshavemorefun are you asking why I have a dishwasher on 14-21 times a week? Or why my cost is £14-21 a week?
I don't have a dishwasher, so that answers that. And no idea why my price is that, must be the water rates in the area.

how can you not know the price you are being billed ?
this thread is about will you save money, so the start is what are you paying at the moment...

@Wot23 I do know what my bill is. I said I don't know what the water rates are dependant on area.

all three kids are educated at home, so all meals/snacks are usually at home or running tupperware etc from being out and about. and they love to bake! 😆

We recently had a water meter fitted as our rates had gone up to over £100 a month.
We are two adults and a teenager.
Had it fitted since July and read the meter recently and got a bill. We are using about £60 a month on the meter. So I don't think it would be worth you swapping as you rated charge of £55 a month seems very reasonable. Of course, it might be that your water board charges less per cubic liter than ours so could save money still. United utilities said we could get a meter and swap back within two years if it was costing us more than the normal water rates.

It didn't used to be but definitely is now.
