I bank with first direct and they won't offer an account to anyone under 18, so I have no idea.

Am thinking of paying her pocket money in by dd, so there will be a regular credit made (but not much )

She will need to access her cash, so will need a debit card but deffo no overdraft.

She probably won't need a chequebook either.

When I was younger banks used to offer all sorts of incentives to teenagers to bank with them, do any of them still do this?

halifax cardcash is what i had, no overdraft or anything but you get a card which you can withdraw money and use like a normal debit card, think you have to be over 16 for this though

halifax do have another card that is for under 116s if tis is what you are looking for

hsbc also do one, but i think it is for over 16s only

Both mine have accounts with Natwest and they seem to work well- they get their student loans paid in their too, but they also have their own ISAs for savings.

thanks all.

I don't think I meant a debit card - I meant a card that she can put in a hole in the wall and get money out - a link card?

Will check out Halifax, Co-Op (if there is one in our local town) and Nat West

I know that there is no Abbey within 40 miles of us, dp used to bank with them but moved when we came here as it was costing him so much to actually get his cash.

Barclays are great. My sister took her two into town and let them visit all the banks and then decide. She said there weren't many offers though (Oh for the days of NatWest piggy Banks and Midland Bank bags!)

With Barclays she will have a card whic (I think) she can also pay with if funds are in the account.
